Here goes a "blurb" as a faraway friend called it once. He was having trouble writing about something for a while so he finally decided to just right about shoes and see where it takes him. I've never had the problem of not having anything to write. For me I always have the problem of never having enough time to write. At least not what I want to be writing... Like right now for instance; I just got through writing a blog for my literature class, and I could be writing one or two of the nine discussion responses I have to have done by tomorrow, but instead I'm here writing about nothing of importance. Oops, I said it... now you know that there is no meaning to this thing that you are reading and there is absolutely nothing that you will get out of it. Now you might be thinking, "Daniel! You're wasting my time as much as you are wasting your own!" I don't know if I would agree with you on that though. Yeah, I should be doing my homework, but I think it is important to write when you don't have to. I seem to notice that writing what I want to write about is much easier than writing about what I have been told to write about. But how can we get better at something if we don't practice it regularly? If a football team just meets up for the games but doesn't meet up for practices, then their performance will not be anywhere near as close as it could be. In that same sense, if we don't set aside time to practice writing, then our skill for assigned writings will not be able to improve very much.
That same friend I mentioned earlier writes a lot... So much that I don't have time to read it all (and if you are still reading this, first of all, ...why??! And also, Thank you). I wish I had more time to read more as well. I always seem to postpone things that I have been wanting to read for the longest time. Even when doing discussion responses, I choose the shortest one so I'm not reading for as long. This needs to change because reading is the best way to become a better writer, besides writing more of course.
But wait! That last thing I said might be wrong... let me rephrase, "besides writing more often of course". Writing more is not always the best thing to do. Even with the responses, no one is going to read and respond to the 3 page discussion post explaining the most enlightening piece of the six meditations by Descartes. I feel like the best writer is one who can tell a story clearly without using nearly as many words. I continue to run into such problems with my homework. The minimum requirement is 400 words and before I know it, I'm at 700 words and still haven't clearly answered the question yet. With more and more practice and experience, I Believe I can get to that point eventually.
So lets recap. If your still even reading this, you are probably someone who likes reading, which means you might enjoy writing as well... in that case, you probably already know these small tips of advice. But nevertheless, don't lose courage and keep reading whenever you can. You may think you are horrible at writing and don't believe you could ever be good at it. I have a challenge for you. Start writing a minimum of 100 words a day that are not related to school or business. It doesn't matter what you write about just as long as your are writing. After you have that down, start writing 200 or 300 each day. Its possible that you may begin doing it on your own without even realizing it. Once you have a writing routine down good, you can start focusing on the quality of what you are writing. Creating stories, or expressing opinions or sharing ideas. What you do with your work is up to you, but it is good to always save your writings in case you ever are able to reuse them for anything you might need it for.
I'm falling asleep now so I will be done with this blurb but I hope it has inspired you to start writing more often. Thank you for reading if you made it this far. God Bless and Goodnight.
