A Quick Explanation On Some Lore(and some bonuses)

SORRY IT'S AN AUTHOR'S NOTE BUT THIS IS LORE THAT NEEDS TO BE EXPLAINED

A lot of fanfiction writers have souls be, to put it simply, sexual. Do not have that mindset here. I'm here to do some explaining that is too late to put in the actual story.

If you give your soul to someone, you are entrusting them with your care. They can heal or hurt you in this state. The soul gains some physical properties. If crushed, dropped, or broken, the soul will snap and break. It is fragile, and easily shattered. But other than cracks, it's pretty much inpenetrable. Underneath, it's more soft and sticky. If you manage to get to this part, it will be a million times worse.

There are rumored to be monster "vampires" in the olden days- they would take a human's soul, and rather than absorb it, they would break it, then somehow- the record has been lost- open the soul and eat/drink the stuff inside, rendering the human half dead and having lost everything they are. Some would eat or absorb the rest, some would heal the human and give them a soulless life, and others would leave the human to die.

Once it touches its owner's body, it will return to its former soul form, having no physical properties.

However, if they have hold of your soul, some can also control you. With their own powers, some monsters can take control of a soul and control their magic, and they can be killed at any moment. Healing straight into a soul will heal any wounds you might have.

Showing someone your soul means you trust them not to murder you. A pretty low-set bar. It's not intimate or weird in any way. It's just 'oh hey this is your trait' or 'why the frick are there cracks you're dying fknbgnjkredh'

If you absolutely MUST know, reproduction is just a simple spell that draws from the two parent's souls. Theoretically, you COULD do it with just yourself, but this is very dangerous and could have a terrible effect on the parent, even killing them. Human-monster relationships haven't been observed since quite a while before the war, so nothing is known about that.

About the human souls- Your primary trait is one of the seven main ones. JUSTICE(yellow), PERSEVERENCE(purple), KINDNESS(green), PATIENCE(cyan), INTEGRITY(blue), BRAVERY(orange), and DETERMINATION(red). Determination is less common, but more powerful. Your soul will not be a plain color. Even if someone is very patient, they might be kind or honest as well.

If someone is depressed or has less emotion etc, their soul will be less saturated(grayer) than someone who isn't. The only way to tell what color someone's soul is is if someone with magic Checked you, or with some experimental magic visors. Some may be obvious, some less so. Nobody's soul is COMPLETELY grey... That we know of.

WARNING: These may contain spoilers. I tried my best, but there's no guarantee. Also, I randomly(rarely) update these sometimes. So.

SCENE 1: The Only Way- Starts from a spot in Chapter 19

The determined man grabs Sans by the arm and throws him near me, where he hits the wall with a sickening crack and slumps to the ground.

"Sans!" I shout. "Sans, are you okay!?" The attacker has run off. The skeleton in question sits up slowly.

"urgh... i'm fine... but don't you see? every reset it's harder and harder to defeat him. i don't know if you can this time. he seems so confident that he destroyed the reset button."

"You don't look fine, but I'll accept it. Do you have any ideas on how to defeat... that guy?" I ask.

"yeah, but you won't like it, kid."

"Have you liked any of my ideas? I don't have to remind you how that soul-sucking one went. I may be fine now, but... Ugh." I shudder, mostly to prove a point.

"you have to kill me." I'm speechless for a moment.

"I have to what."

"look, i lied. i'm not fine." He takes out his slightly cracked soul. "if you're going to defeat him, you need to take it." I put my hands up in the air.

"Whoa whoa whoa, no way. Making me soulless is one thing. But murdering you!? I can't do that! I can't... Papyrus would kill me!"

"stop using pap as an excuse. he'll live. but not if he gets killed by that villain. you need to do it. besides, heh... better killed by you than him, right? if i die normally, i'll just waste away in hell or something. but this way, you'll have all of the magic you could need. with the power of a human soul and the magic of a monster... he won't stand a chance."

"I'm telling you, I- There's gotta be another way..." He shoves the slightly damaged soul into my hands.

"do it. i'm going to die anyway. absorb the soul as you crush it. it's the only way, kid. besides, you... aren't doing to well either. you've run yourself close to magic exhaustion and there seems to be something up with your soul... i'm not sure what it is. but with the power of two souls, it'll likely be healed." I look down at the white soul in my hands, slowly cracking.

"I don't like this plan..." I say shakily. "You saw how it turned out with Asriel and Chara..." I say, trying to stall.

"if you do it right, i'll be fine. but not if i just die. oh, and..." He gives me a guilty smile. "you know that song earlier? if it calms you down like you said, you'll be able to do it easier. besides, i like it." I take a deep breath.

"When the light is running low, and the shadows start to grow, and the places that you know seem like fantasy... There's a light inside your soul, that's still shining in the cold, with the truth, the promise in our hearts..." Heh... This stuff is kinda realistic. I crack the soul a little bit in my fingers. It's so fragile... like glass.

"Don't forget..." I crack it a little more. Sans winces as he starts to turn to dust. How am I not crying by now? This is like... movie-level sappy things.

"I'm with you..." Crack. Sans closes his eyes.

"In the dark." I shatter the soul at the same moment I try to absorb it. Sans flinches as he shatters with the soul. Some kind of weird transformation happens, and then I'm kneeling on the ground. I pull out my soul. The pieces are forming together at the center. I look at my reflection in the water.

My eyes are black, like Sans's, with yellow eyelights, and I no longer have glasses(where do they even go?). Otherwise, I look mostly the same. But it's a sweatshirt instead of a hoodie with the Delta Rune in dark blue rather than purple.

"All right, Sans. If you're in there, I hope you're happy." I spin a bone blade around as I summon it, trying to look cool for the invisible cameras(we're obviously in a movie). "We're about to get revenge.
