Leaving nothing but footsteps, sprinkled about an old dusty road.

Their taboo love story, had yet to unfold.

They locked away their fears, in a cage of interlaced fingers.

Stargazing in the celestial place within each other's eyes.

Running around careless, and laughing out loud.

Aggravating one another, with a good-humored lies.

They asked themselves silly questions, and kept each other’s secrets.

Oh! How would they survive?

If one should ever go astray, and leave the others side.

Through vines, spying eyes could see,

Young love, set so wild and free.

A quirky couple that was meant to be,

It couldn’t be anything less than destiny.

She couldn’t help herself but crack a smile,

He wouldn’t admit but it made all his fear fade away for a while

To see her leave now would break his untouched heart.

What a burden it would be, to recover every shard.

Every little piece of his once untouched; now broken heart.

But for her he’d face every peril.

He’d be her knight in shining armor, and her pillow to cry on.

He’d have the bravery of a noble lion, and the strength of an anvil.

He’d be as loyal as man’s best friend,

And he’d fight for her, until he breathed his last breath.

Her hero, her soul mate, her best friend was taken.

On a road, on a cliff, is where her whole world was shaken.

A tired trucker, falling asleep at the wheel,

Had no idea he was about to turn the beau’s car,

Into a coffin of steel.

A coffin for one,

Her angel had fallen.

The Guardian of her life,

To whom she perpetually owed her wings.

For his last-minute, humane, and valiant deed.

Shielding her body from the fatal, iron stampede.

A small box recovered from the wreck

Told the story of a vow and the vow’s heartbreaking effect.

A mangled ring with a modest stone,

Was the final symbol of his undying respect.

So she lived without him till the pain was too strong.

Countless roses had wilted, and her whole life had gone.

To the bluff, where her life had once been saved,

Is where she surrendered her body,

To a watery grave.

Forever, in heaven,

Live the predestined sweethearts.

For eternity, together,

Now no longer apart.
