Lucas's feet were moving as fast as they could. He didn't know how long it will take and he didn't care to be honest. He knew he will continue running even if he will have the last breath left in his lungs. He gave himself the luxury of looking back behind his shoulder to see if his two best friends were still following him. Lucky for him, Tommy and Mike were still close behind him. "Lucas! We can stop for a moment. Tommy can't walk anymore." Mike called to him, making him stop. Lucas leaned against a tree, trying to catch his breath. Tommy plopped down to the ground, rubbing his aching leg. Mike got down on his knees right next to him, smiling sadly. "You think it's broken?" Tommy shrugged and closed his eyes for a moment. "I don't have an idea but it hurts like hell." Lucas joined his friends and sighed. He was still checking the surrounding around them, checking the nearby forest as well. "Lu calm down. We lost them near the lake we passed by."
"I know Mike but...there was too many of them. And Tommy can't walk fast. We are lucky we lost them but they will catch up with us soon." "You should just leave me here guys," Tommy said, rubbing his injured leg. "No. We said it when it all went to shit. We leave no one behind. We are in this together. No matter what." Lucas said and squeezed Tommy's shoulder gently. "The sun will set down soon. We should find some shelter for the night." Mike whispered mostly to himself, his and Lucas's head shot up when they heard the growling of the dead ones. "Alright buddy, we need to go." Mike smiled sadly at Tommy before he and Lucas helped him to stand up. Soon they could see them. The dead ones. The walkers. Zombies. "Tommy I know it hurts but please try to move a bit faster," Mike said as he helped Tommy to get over a big fallen tree. "Lucas! They are moving faster!" Mike yelled at his friend. Lucas was running a bit ahead, checking if moving forward is safe. "It's clear here! Come on!"
It took them maybe 30 minutes to get out of the forest but what they saw didn't make their hopes get up. They got at the end of the cliff. The only way was jumping down, hoping they won't hit the rocks or going down carefully at the other side but they would be an easy target for the walkers. "We have to jump," Lucas said and looked back at his friends. The two brothers were panting heavily. "W-What? Lucas that's a suicide."
"So is walking the other side. I will stall them. You and Tommy just jump." Lucas smiled at the two brothers. "Trust me." Mike and Tommy looked at their friend, nodding at each other. "We do. We believe that you can survive everything." Lucas blinked at Mike, confused. "What are you talking about? Guys, we don't have much time."
"We surely don't," Tommy said and Mike smiled sadly. "Sorry, Lu but you have to continue without us. You have to survive." And before Lucas could do or say anything else, Mike pushed him down of the cliff. It was just a moment before his body hit the cold water but for Lucas, it was an eternity. He was watching as his friends tried to get away the other side before the water wrapped around him. He picked all of his strength as he swam towards the shore. He looked around himself quickly, trying to find his friends. But Tommy and Mike were nowhere to be seen. He punched the wet ground with his fists, tears of frustration rolling down over his cheeks. He was thirsty, hungry, tired and he felt weak. He only wanted to find his friends and hide. So he slowly got to his feet, taking a knife out of his boot. He took a deep breath before plunging the knife into the rooting head of a walker that slowly walked towards him. He screamed at them as they kept on coming. His arms hurt, his whole body hurt but he had to try to find his friends. "Mike! Tommy!" He screamed while pushing the walkers out of his way. He managed to get to the end of the hill where they were supposed to be already but when he got there, he only saw the dead ones. He ran his fingers through his hair, sighing loudly. "I-I can't...I can't breathe." He whispered, his head spinning. He knew he is having a panic attack and that it wasn't good. He needed to stay focused. He had to find them. He had to survive.

"Are you done watching him? Troy, he needs our help." Nick said while looking at the boy next to him. Troy just shrugged. "Not our problem."
"And here I thought you would be happy that you can kill some walkers." Nick hummed while opening the door of their jeep. "Nick wait! Don't be a fool." Troy called after him but Nick was already shooting at the walkers. So Troy thought why not? He got out of the car, helping Nick to get towards the boy who was about to pass out. "Troy go get him I will keep them away!" Troy was looking at Nick for a bit longer before running towards the boy. He was shorter than Troy, dirty blond hair and even though his eyes were almost closed, Troy could see they are blue. Like his own. He threw the boy's arm over his shoulder, dragging him back towards the car. He pushed him on the back seat, closing the door. "Nick come on! We gotta go!" He jumped in the driver's seat, waiting for Nick to get inside the car as well before driving away, back home. "Is he okay?" Nick asked while looking back at the boy. "I don't know and I don't care. He is in the car and we are taking him back with us so stop bothering me with him."
"You really are a horrible person." Nick rolled his eyes and the rest of the ride was held in silence.
Troy just checked the boy at the back seat from time to time. The boy looked really tired and he was whispering two names over and over again. Soon the guys got back home, driving through the opened gate of the Broke Jaw ranch. Troy parked the car, waiting for his father to get to them. "Who is it?" He threw his head towards the unconscious boy Nick was holding up by his waist. "We found him surrounded by walkers. He is not infected or anything like that." Troy's father checked on the boy, humming. "He seems really young and maybe even strong. We need more people like him. Take him to the infirmary. Tie him down though." Nick nodded and was ready to leave with the boy before the old man stopped him. "You will stay with him until he wakes up, okay?"
"Sure sir." Nick agreed and took the boy to the infirmary and did as the old man ordered him to do. When the boy was secured on the bed, Nick pulled a chair next to the bed and he sat down. He rubbed his face, sighing. He was watching the boy and he noticed scars and fresh scratches on his hands and face. The boy looked young, maybe year or two younger than him. He looked troubled even in his sleep and Nick was glad they found him in time. Because whatever made the boy look like that, it wasn't good for sure.
