Context: Stiles and Lydia meet on a messaging app (now that I re-read it it's low key low key like the hilary duff version of Cinderella without all the good bits)

New message from Alcyone 1:04 AM.

Alcyone: are you mad?
Ceyx: no
Alcyone: you sound mad
Ceyx: How can you read my tone of voice over text?
Alcyone: I can't.
Alcyone: I just know you
Ceyx: I'm not mad, Lydia
Ceyx: Did you know there are 27 different Lydia's in our grade alone?
Ceyx: 27. I counted them myself.
Alcyone: Very impressive
Alcyone: didn't know you could count
Ceyx: Ha ha *sarcasm*
Alcyone: The longer you go without telling me your name
Alcyone: The more I start to think you're actually an old creepy stalker guy
Ceyx: Well I promise you I'm not
Ceyx: And we've discussed the whole name thing before
Alcyone: I know you're one in a million blah blah blah
Alcyone: I can't keep calling you Ceyx, it's odd to say outloud
Ceyx: Then don't call me that
Alcyone: What should I call you then?
Ceyx: ...Dave
Alcyone: Dave?
Ceyx: What's wrong with Dave?
Alcyone: Nothing
Alcyone: Dave it is then
Ceyx: Hi Lydia
Alcyone: Hi "Dave"
Ceyx: No no there aren't quotations around my name it's just Dave
Alcyone: You know there are only twelve Dave's in our grade :)
Ceyx: Really? Did you count?
Alcyone: No I looked it up on the online yearbook
Ceyx: That's pretty damn smart
Ceyx: Who even came up with that online "yearbook year-round" thing?
Alcyone: Too tired to care. sleep now. Goodnight "Dave"

But she wasn't tired at all. In fact, Lydia was quite the opposite of tired, laying jittery and smiling in her bed. She felt dumb for liking someone she didn't even know, but he was dreamy and she couldn't help it. Dave. She laughed quietly. She loved when he called her by name in text too, like if someone else were to read their conversations they would see he'd called her by name and suddenly realize the messages weren't for them. Oh, these are for Lydia. My bad dude. Lying there, staring at the darkness of her phone screen, it felt like waiting for a new text to arrive. But she knew one wouldn't come, because he wanted her to sleep well, so he would never reply after she said goodnight. Ceyx and Alcyone had met anonymously on a Beacon Hills High School groupchat some time in the middle of their sophomore year. Lydia Martin had entered it because her best friend Kira Yukimura had said it was funny and that you got to talk to a lot of people. Stiles Stilinski had entered the chat as a dare from his best friend Scott McCall and the only message he had typed upon entering the groupchat was–

Anonymous: I'm Ceyx

To which Lydia almost immediately replied.

Anonymous: then I'll be Alcyone

And they'd been messaging ever since. They had never truly discussed meeting in person, only once and that conversation was too serious for either to handle. They joked about it, texting "I saw you in the hall today" and things like that. It was nice to talk to someone about the troubles of the day or the random dreams of the night. And they did like each other, they said it several times, whether or not it was intended as just friends was unclear. But they seemed to both know it wouldn't be just friends. It never was.

New message from Ceyx 11:22 AM.

Ceyx: There are actually 28 Lydia's in our grade
Alcyone: Online yearbook?
Ceyx: Online yearbook :)
