Far Out!: The 80s-90s Culture

Post-mordernism. It doesn't have the best sound to it, but it generally describes anyone born from 2000 and onward. Being born in 2001, I felt that I missed out on the last bit of the 90s by two measly years. Of course, even being two years older, it wouldn't make much of a difference on my experiences and all of the influences of the post-modern age. But it still would have given me a number to claim for myself, a number that didn't include 2000, but something much more iconic.

1999. What a time it would have been. And as for 1989? Well, we couldn't have asked for a better year. Or better millenia, to be frank.
The 80s and 90s are two decades that are often spoken of, but seldom appreciated. It is missed by few, the lucky ones who just so happened to catch a glimpse of the cultures and the trends and the many bits and pieces that made it the icon that it has become.

In the eyes of a post-modernist, these decades seem a mere bore; nobody wants to live in an age with no cellphones and terrible graphics. Not to mention, slow internet or no internet at all. But the truth of the matter is, technology has stripped our age of all of the enjoyable aspects of life that those in the 80s and 90s never would have taken for granted.

Togetherness, laughter, and good music.

These were the things that the 80s and 90s harbored and nurtured with tender loving care. They incorporated them in their televisions shows, music, movies, and even everyday life on the block. Here in 2019, we incorporate sex, violence, and crime in our media and television, as well as our music. It's a shame we have to conform to the sexual and hostile demands of our age, but for some of us... the 1980s-90s hasn't left us yet.

Here's to the Golden Age.
