Dear Emmett,

By the time I was 18 years old, your age, I would have given anything to fall in true love, that’s when I met ,your mother, Inna (pronounced Enna). She was the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen, she had me from the moment I saw her. She had long blonde hair, with Icy blue eyes that could freeze the world. You got her eyes, you remind me everyday what a beautiful relationship we had.

The next day I saw her she slipped a note to me and that’s when I realized the wonderful thing we had. Her note said “Boy, can I tell you a wonderful thing? I can’t help but notice, you staring at me. I know I shouldn’t say this, but I really believe, I can tell by your eyes that your in love with me.” Son, I’m telling you this because life does terrible things to you.

18 years old we were in love we’d do anything together, even if it meant we’d lose everything. Having too much to drink and laughing way to loud, we would gaze up at the stars. Being too young to care and too dumb to care we would stay up late and share everything. This is a love story we can’t compare to some ordinary relationship.

A year later I messaged her, I told her to meet me outside, and that I had a present for her. I had spent all week searching for the perfect ring, finally I found the one. I spent hours making a box that opened up asking “Will you marry me?” Once she opened her door I felt my heart skipping beats as she walked up to me. I handed her the home made box made with paper and string, while saying open with care. Now son, I know I’ve said this, but I’m only telling you this because life can do terrible things and I hope god shows you differently.

She said, “Boy, can I tell you a terrible thing? It seems I’m sick and I only got weeks. Please, don’t be sad now, I really believe, You were the best thing that ever happened to me.” With these words of hers I fell to the ground slowly and wept. I couldn’t believe the words that she said. A week later she fell extremely ill, it came to be that she had cancer and wasn’t going to take the medication to fight. The doctor told me she had a 15% chance of surviving and she didn’t want to cost me the pain of watching her suffer through the medication, losing her hair, all beat up, and just exhausted. This is the point when I decided I was going to live her dream since she couldn’t. Here I was adopting you even though I had no idea what I was doing.

To wrap this all up I’ll give you the best advice I can. Don’t fall in love you will have to much to lose, as you could end up like I and your mother. If you begin to fall for a girl, I’m begging you to just walk away, save yourself from the horrible pain that love can cause. I couldn’t bear to see the same things happen to you that happened to me, I’m begging you walk away before it’s to late. I’m only telling you this because life can do terrible things.

Sincerely,

Your Father, Jake
