"Thanks." I sit down at my desk and fiddle with a pen. Nat sits at his and turns his chair to face me.
"So you do realise you're not actually writing any articles right?"
"Um, I don't have a clue what my job is." I tell him.
"Basically you just have to review the articles for the magazine and check that they work."
"Sounds simple enough." I say, putting the pen I was playing with back on the table. I look around the office and notice that nearly everyone is looking at me. I look away and focus on Nat, who is giving everyone a stare saying back off.
"You hungry?" He asks me.
"Yeah, actually I am."
"Do you want to come with me and grab a bite to eat?"
"Sure." I say, standing up and linking my arm with his. He leads me out of the front entrance, I smile at Beth as I pass. We walk for about five minutes before he leads me into a small bakery. He opens the door for me and I am immediantly hit with the smell of bakery cupcakes and bread. Yum! I walk over to a small booth in the corner and plonk myself down, he joins me straight after. I pick up a small menu and read it through.
"I think i'm just going to get a cupcake, chocolate of course." He tells me.
"Same, with sprinkles."
"How could I forget the sprinkles?" He asks me, smacking his hand to his mouth. I laugh and he smiles at me.
"You have dimples!" I all but shout, reaching over to pull at his cheek. He smacks my hand away and covers his cheeks.
"Shut up!" He tells me. A man about our age comes over to us and asks us what we wanted to eat. He has black hair and bright brown eyes, with a sort of tough guy attitude. He reminds me of Bregan.
"We both want a chocolate cupcake with sprinkles." Nat tells the guy. I nod and the guy walks back to the kitchen. "His name is Asher and he is H.O.T."
"He looks like the type of guy my best friend would love." I tell him, smiling sadly at the thought of Bree.
"Yeah, but he's a huge player."
"Even better, players are her type."
"And yours?" He prompts.
"Not at all." I tell him. "Everett looks like a bit of a player."
"Yeah, he is. He always brings girls into his office, next thing you know they're leaving with messed up hair and an uneven skirt."
"What are offices for?" I tease him lightly, trying to hide the odd feeling of jealously. Our cupcakes come over and Nat pays Asher, our waiter. "I can pay for mine!" I say, trying to hand him my money.
"No way Aussie." He says, teasing me with a nickname.
"Aussie?" I say lamely.
"Yeah, your accent is amazing." He says, taking a bite of his cupcake. I bite into mine and my mouth is exploded with something close to the taste of heaven.
"Oh my god." I say into my cupcake, taking another bite.
"Good huh?"
"Fucking delicious." I answer him and he smiles wider. We quickly finish and we both stand to leave. I smile at Asher behind the counter but he just nods and continues doing his work. Definetly Bree's type of guy.
"Do you have a boyfriend?" Nat asks me, taking me by surprise.
"No, do you?" I ask him.
"No, I haven't had a boyfriend since forever." He groans.
"What? A cute guy like you?"
"I know right? Guys should be throwing themselves at me." He says in a mock seriousness.
"They should be on their knees in front of you." I tease.
"My favourite position." He says, I laugh loudly and he slings an arm over my shoulder as we walk back to the office.
"My mission is to find you a boyfriend." I tell him.
"Fine. Then mine is to find you a boyfriend. Don't even think about arguing." He adds, knowing I was about to. I shake my head and smile, it's funny how we are so close already. It makes me feel more relaxed knowing I have at least one friend here. We get back to our desks and I start drawing on a piece of paper. I look around and notice Everett in his office, his door wide open. Staring at me, he signals for me to come over. I walk over and stand beside his desk.
"I have a place for you to stay tomorrow so you can just bring whatever you have to move to the office." He tells me.
"Thankyou." I say, turning to leave.
"Callie?"
"What?" I say and he chuckles.
"You have a nice ass." He says, making me blush. I'm so lucky my back is to him.
"An ass you will never have." I say, walking out of his office.
"We'll see." He shouts to me, I keep walking and sit back down at my desk.
"What did he want?" Nat asks me, looking at me over his shoulder.
"Nothing." I mumble and he doesn't press me any further. He just shrugs and turns back to his work. What does he mean we'll see? Should I be worried? Or should I just make like nothing happened? I feel a strange attraction to him, he definetly is hot. But I don't do players, never have and never will. So why is something inside me screaming at me to walk back into his office, shut the door and jump his bones? Of course I won't do that, it's not the sort of person I am. And I will not let him get to me. How can he just say things like this and stare at people like he does? Surely someone has said something to him. But I know that no one would've. He's too experienced in the art of being a player. Some part of me wants to smack him in the face and another part of me wants to smack him on the ass! As soon as I get home I will ring Bree and tell her everything. Yeah, this job is already turning out to be a pocket full of sunshine.
