Charity sat in the V.I.P section of the Blue Magnolia club, nursing a glass of Henny. She didn't normally do brown liquor or any liquor for that matter, but tonight she made an exception. Today just really wasn't her day. Today she had just discovered her grandmother had died of brain cancer. The worst part was she hadn't died today or even the day before. She had died 4 months ago, and she was just finding out today.
She had come home for the first time in 4 years since she left to go live with her mother after the separation between her parents. She stood up from the soft plush couch on wobbly legs. She made it a few feet before her legs gave out. Before she could fall back down , the big buff brute caught her in his arms. She frowned.
"You know when h-he told you watch me , he meant from a distance." She slurred.
The man draped her arm around him acting as support for the drunk Charity.
"I'm just doing my job Ms. Kingston."
He was right. She couldn't be mad at him for doing what he was instructed to do. That's what her father paid him for. He didn't want to be a babysitter for some spoiled rich brat, whose drinking her sorrows away.
He would rather be at home with his wife and kids. He watched Cherry grow up and loved her like a daughter, but he couldn't think of a worse job to do for her father. He felt like she had no one but her mother to blame for not knowing her grandmother died. It was her and her mother who left and cut all ties with her father due to his occupation.
They two maneuvered through the crowd of sweaty and drunken partiers, Charity barley staying on her feet. "I can handle myself, Pablo, so just give me 50 feet."
She pulled away almost falling yet again.
Pablo let out a huff. He really was starting to get pissed, he thought since she was 18 now, she would be a young, mature, independent woman. Not this hot mess who just feels sorry for herself. She had been drinking before she came into the club owned by her cousin.
After she ran out of wine, she decided to go somewhere where she wouldn't be cut off. What better place to go then the bar owned by a family member, where you would be supplied with unlimited booze.
Leaving out the door the two were met with the harsh winter air. Pablo looked over to C and saw she was hunched over vomiting. Shaking his head he pulled her hair from her face and rubbed her back.
"That woman was my heart and soul. I should have known something was not right when I didn't receive any calls from her."
The tears were streaming down her dark smooth skin. It was the first time she cried since she heard the news. Now she couldn't stop the tears. It felt as if her chest was being squeezed she wasn't getting enough oxygen in her lungs. The sobs shook her body.
Pablo's heart ached for her. He saw first hand how close she was with her grandmother. That was the reason her grandmother never told her about the cancer. She knew that Charity would rush by her side. It was already to late for her, she didn't want her granddaughter and daughter to watch her die. She also didn't want Cherry anywhere in the city after the incident.
"I was so wrapped up in college, and staying off my father's radar, that I neglected her. 4 months, she has been gone for 4 months, everybody grieved her and moved on except me."
He assisted her to the car that was brought around to take them home.
After helping her in he sent a text to the boss man, informing him that Cherry was coming home. He looked over and saw that she was laying across the seat crying. The contents in her purse had been spilled all over the car floor.
"Where are you taking me, Pablo?"
"Im taking you to your fathers house."
This sobered her up a little. She jumped up with energy she didn't know she had.
