The plain old window swiftly slid open, letting the lullaby of the nights highway echo into the cluttered room.
A wooden bed frame holding a rather worn mattress sat in the corner of the room. Plush blankets were piled up at the sides, and a quilt lied atop it all. The window was stationary at the end of the bed, someone having gotten pushed their limits with the hot heaters air.
Their tanned fingers curled under before they pulled up, plopping back onto the grey blanket that covered the rather small bed. Figure darkened and harshly shadowed by the darkness of the night, and dark chocolate colored curtains draped down from the hooks in the walls, refusing the street lights that lurked outside.
Enjoying the darkness, and in need of the cold, they leaned over the edge of the twin bed as the aged springs creaked and groaned. A wooden chair that was very obviously too small for someone their age to sit in sat beside the bed. Reaching under it, they grasped onto a small dark grey fan, pulling the partly dusty thing out.
They trailed their soft fingers down a thick black wire that connected to the fan, until they hit the end, a two pong plug. A free hand groped around on the rugged floor until it found the off white extension cord, then connecting the two.
Vvvvvvvmmmmm the fan hummed, turning on. To which the figure flinched, quickly turning the thing down two notches.
Vvmm m m m... the machine hushed, having been turned off. A quiet relieved sigh left the shaded figure, taking a breath before pulling the fan up infront of them, then pointing it away towards the floor.
Eyes blankly looking down at the object, they extended a finger, flicking the fan on again, a low setting this time, giving it a minute to speed up and blow all the dust out of itself, before picking it up and perching it onto the empty windowsill. The cold nights breeze slowly made its way into the room, blowing away all the hot air the furnace had uninvitingly made.
Criss crossed the figure sat, short wavy hair blowing around behind as they let the refreshing freezing temperature consume their being, mind finally calming down, it's randomized thoughts becoming less dizzy and blurred. Shoulders melting down to a more comfortable, natural posture as they let out a relieved sigh. This was it. This is nice. I could finally relax . . .
