"I want to go home".

Silence.

Slash and I stared at each other, his hands ceasing to play around with the bony fingers of my left hand.

"I'm not dying here Saul", I swallowed the lump in my throat as we continued to stare at one another.

His eyes became glassy but he shook it off, dropping my hand and nodding his head.

"Okay beautiful".

I almost missed the crack in his voice.

He covered it with a cough before jumping off the bed and gathering all of my belongings.

"Wait".

Immediately he stopped.

"We need an escape plan", a smile creeping onto my face.

He glanced at the floor for a moment in thought before raising his dark eyes to my own.

A gleam of mischief shone in them like a twinkle in the night sky.

"I got it covered".

I had never seen him look so sure of himself.

In.

Out.

In.

Out.

It's funny how breathing is second nature to us.

So simple you don't even have to think about it but in those rare moments.

Those moments...

When you overthink the simplest of things.

The simplest of tasks.

That is when the panic sets in.

Breathe.

In.

Out.

In.

"C'mon sweetheart it's ok-somebody call a doctor!".

In.

Out.

"E-Evie, baby you've got this...just breathe".

In.

"Somebody call a fucking ambulance NOW!".

It hurts.

The simple task of breathing.

Something so...

Basic.

My are open wide but it's as if I cannot see.

Panic.

In.

Out.

In.

In.

I feel like I'm under water.

I can't think, I can't see, I can't feel.

In.

Out.

My vision clears and my lungs embrace the air like an old friend when the oxygen mask is placed over my nose and mouth.

Warm hands are shaking as the fingertips wipe away the tears sliding down my sunken cheeks.

My eyes focus on the cracks in the ceiling before they trail above me to a disheveled, broken and tearful Slash above me.

He holds me in his arms as if I'm the finest China and just like that we both break.

My face contorting as a sob leaves my mouth, Slash drops his head, his body shakes as he cries silently.

The close calls to death are becoming closer and closer.

Death and I are becoming friends and soon...

Oh so very soon...

I know I will feel his cold embrace.

Oh how I'll miss Slash's warm one...

I'll miss it so, so much.
