Peter dropped Maddie off at her house three hours later. They went out for lunch and hung out. Maddie told her parents about the job and of course her parents congratulated her.

"Maybe we should go out for dinner," her mom suggested.

Maddie grinned, "Mom I'm fine."

She ignored her mom as she went outside. Maddie tried and tried to get up the ladder to her damaged roof on her house. Soon she got up to the roof and soon sat down. The night fell onto the sky. Stars shined in the sky.

"Hey, Mads," Peter's voice came in.

Maddie turned to find her neighbor stand next to her in the dark.

Maddie smiled in the darkness, "Hi Pete."

Peter sat down on the seat next to her on her roof.

She asked, "How did you get up on my roof?"

"Secrets are the best," he laughed.

She sighed and looked at the stars, "My best friend and I used to stare at the stars and wish to get away."

Peter questioned, "Used to?"

"She died last year," Maddie looked down.

Peter regretted, "Oh, sorry."

"Its fine," she sighed, "It took a year to get used to it."

He looked at the stars, "I miss you, Gwen," he said to himself.

She turned to him and whispered to him, "Gwen?"

He nodded in response, "she died a year ago, too."

"I'm sorry for your loss," she looked back to the sky.

Peter smiled a bit, "I feel like she is a star, watching over me."

"Me too but with my best friend," Maddie said as she leaned on Peter's shoulder.

His eyes fell onto her. He noticed her bright blue eyes that closed.

Maddie's father screamed, "Maddie who is up there with you?"

"Dad, its Peter!" She screamed as she jerked off Peter's shoulder.

She turned to Peter, "I have to go, I guess."

Maddie walked down the ladder as she watched Peter.

"Maybe we should do this every night," she laughed and walked away into her house.

That night, words spoke in both of their ears, "We are stars."

For Maddie it was her blonde headed best friend's voice. But for Peter, it was Gwen.
