A thousand years ago there was an empire stretching across modern Scandinavia. This empire was ruled by an ancient and mythical race known simply as the blessed warriors, or the fea. As the race split into the three tribes, so was the empire.
This race of warriors may share a similar name to the Celtic faerie/fae, but have differing histories. They were known to communicate and may have been allies, leading to the similar name, but all of this is simply speculation.
Another legend stated that the Fea had their names stolen by the Faeries, and in return they stole the letters of Fae and scrambled them to create a similar sounding name to that which had been stolen.
The Valo: known as the purest of the tribes. It was said that if you were kissed by a Valo warrior you and your descendants would live forever, though this was proven false. They ruled present day Norway and Iceland. It was said of those who lived under Valo control were the kindest in all of the empire.
The Harmma: known as the people who couldn't pick a side. The Harmma strived to find balance in the light and dark side of the sacred fire. (we'll get into that later.) The Harmma were an extremely lenient group of leaders, the people living under Harmma were mostly self-governing. They controlled the modern day countries of Denmark and Sweden.
And lastly Tumma: this tribe was forgotten by the sands of time due to their cruelty. It was often said that if a child was born pure, the leader would cast it out into the cold and then use the frozen remains as decoration. Though this statement was proven false and was simply mortal propaganda to defect to the Valo. The tumma were a more democratic society and held elections, though the leaders were quite bias. The rules were strict and people were expected to follow them. The Tumma ruled modern day Finland and Faro islands.
The religious beliefs of all three tribes were similar, though over the years of separation the name of the Goddess changed. The perception, occupation, and attitude of the Goddess also changed from tribe to tribe.
The Valo believed their Älskade kvinna was a weaver. They said she wove the threads of time and jewels of fire into the universe and sculpted the fea from ash, water, and flax powder. They believed she created the Valo as pure beings that could do no harm and set them to rule the lands she created.
The Harmma spoke of Kjære kvinne, a baker. They believed she took ash, fresh snow, and her tears and kneaded the dough into the shape of the world. This goddess took the left over dough and made the fea, and placed the Harmma in power to rule fair and balanced.
The Tumma told of Rakas nainen, a black smith. They said she heated steal over the sacred "Fires of the Fea" and sculpted the earth with her bare hands. She took parts of the flame and created the three tribes: With the smoke she created the Valo, the ash the Harmma, and the blue flame the Tumma. She released these creations into the world to see who lived, the tribe who didn't die out would rule her earth.
The "Fires of the Fea" are a symbol of new life and warmth for each of the tribes. Each one had a temple that had a fire burning at all times, if it went out it could mean death, famine, or conquering for the tribe. They took religion seriously.
Then one day all the fires when out.....
