The cries of vendors, the screams of merchants and the hopeful laments of beggars, clattering of coins in their metal bowls, the melody of daf, ney and oud, the euphonious sonance of the book of God, brushing of brushes on canvases all and humming of pimps all  came to a halt when the sound of "ALLAH U AKBAR" diffused around the city of Cordoba.

"GOD IS GREAT" yodeled the Mu'zin in Arabic as his voice spread across the silence of the city.

Many people answered in the same words giving the impression that God indeed was great. For many Muslims of Cordoba, The Azan was the only time when they became MUSLIMS and this was too until the Mua'zin burst out in another melodious cry.

"Come Towards success. Come towards success" He called in Arabic.

Those who just offered Salah because it was their duty had already started running towards the great mosque of Cordoba not because they wanted success but because they were in Cordoba. Do in Rome as the Romans do and  Obey the God because others obey too.

“ O you who have believed, when Azan is called for the prayer on the day of Jumu'ah [Friday], then proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave trade. That is better for you, if you only knew.”

Few people knew!

Those who knew, they were called Kafirs [infidels]. Those who questioned they were called Kafirs. Those who wanted to know, they were called Kafirs. Those spent their days in mosques praying and nights gambling, in taverns or a pimphouse were the real Muslims. Indeed God is great.

Many people left their trade just because of conformity and there indeed were very few people who actually believed.

There had been a famine in Cordoba. A famine of Believers but things were about to change.
