Carolina,Agus,Valentina,Ana,Malena,Jorge,Gaston and Karol were gathered at Karol's house to do a assignment for high school.Carolina sat next to Agus who was her best friend and happened to be her only friend in the room.Well,Valentina too but they weren't that close and Caro was sure that Valentina would rather talk with anyone else but her.Gaston and Jorge seemed to be in their own world talking about the project.So that left Carolina holding on to Agus to not let her completely alone.Karol,Ana and Malena were besties and not exactly the kindest to her.They whispered in each other's ears like they shared a big secret and from time to time Caro saw them throwing her dirty glares.She took out her phone and saw that it was 9 o'clock at night.It was getting late and her mother wanted her back soon.Besides most of the job was done and the only thing left was to rewrite the last page to a clean paper.She stood up caughting Agus attention.“Where are you going?„That got the girls attention as well who looked at her curiously.With all the eyes on her Carolina felt uncomfortable.She shoved her hands in her jean's pocket and tried to smile.“Uh.It's getting a bit late and I have to go home„Agus nodded and got ready to offer going with her.“Oh.Okay.Well,I'll come with yo-„Ana cut him off before he could finish that sentence.“Actually Agus,we need your help but she can go if she has to!„Now Agus was the uncomfortable one.“It's late and it's dark outside so I don't think it's a good idea for a seventeen year old girl to walk home,alone.I also promised her mom that I would walk her home so„Karol groaned and pointed out of the window.“Oh come on.It's not like she is five years old.She can walk home alone and it's not like her house is that far away from here.„Agus stayed silent thinking that they did have a point but he had to come up with something. Carolina nodded.“Yeah.Agus you don't have to.„Agus turned to look at her surprised.“Kope are you sure?„She nodded.“Yeah the girls are right.„He looked at her worry evident in his eyes.“Kope...„She tried to smile at him.“It's fine.You can stay„Valentina who was silent the whole time bit her lip not feeling well about this but decided to not say anything.Agus looked back at the three girls and back to Kope.As much as he hated to admit it they were kind of right.He looked at his best friend defeated.“text me when you get home„She smiled and nodded at him as he pulled her in his arms.He silently prayed that he wouldn't regret what he is doing.He would go out of his freaking mind if anything happened to the girl in front of him.She broke out of the hug and with a small wave she walked out the door.Twenty minutes passed and everyone was still at Karol's just hanging out.Agus checked his phone every two minutes waiting for a text from Carolina until Malena groaned taking the phone away from him.“Enough.Okay?You've been doing this every five minutes.If she hasn't texted you it's because when she got home she was too tired and probably fell asleep.„He looked at Malena still worried but he decided that she was once again probably right.So he smiled at her and nodded towards the table telling her to leave his phone there.She smiled back and did as she was told to do.Jorge and Gaston stood up and went next to Agus challenging him into a game on the Playstation.Agus phone started ringing so Jorge passed it to him.He looked at the caller ID and recognized the number as Carolina's mom,Patricia.He checked the time and about half an hour passed since Kope left.He picked up the phone not feeling too confident.“Hello?Mrs Patricia?„From the other line Patricia sighed and seemed to be trying to keep her voice calm.“Agus,can you please give me Caro on the phone.I want to ask her when you are coming back.It's late.„That seemed odd to Agus and terror almost took over him but he told himself that she was probably angry because he didn't walk Kope home and she was about to lecture him about 'keeping promises to your best friend's mom'.So he confidently answered.“She left a while ago.She'll soon be home... If she isn't already.„All Agus heard was a gasp and a shaky voice almost screamed.“What?!Agus she is not home.I'm serious.How long has it been since she left?Weren't you supposed to leave with her?„He felt a little guilty but he wasn't going to apologize for doing something he wanted so he decided to just ignore the last question.“Half an hour ago.„Now the voice seemed to be on the verge of crying.“That's too long.She should've been home by now.„Agus realized that this was no 'trap' or 'lecture' this was serious.Kope could be in trouble.He shot up from his seat with wide eyes and panic got the best of him.“Wait!Are you serious right now?She is not home and hasn't communicated with you or anything at all?„He was at the verge of crying and the sobs from the other line didn't help.“No.Nothing.„Agus walked to the door getting his coat.“I'll be there in 10„He hang up and the whole group was soon next to him bombarding him with questions.“What happened?„Agus glared at the people who talked him into leaving his best friend the girl he knew well enough that he loved alone,outside in the dark.He felt dizzy and tears gathered in his eyes blurring his vision.He wanted to bang his head on the wall.“Kope.She never got home.She is probably into trouble.I'm going to look for her.„Valentina rushed to the table taking her car keys and then to the hanger getting her jacket.“I'm coming with you.We'll go with my car„Agus looked at her with no emotion and tears starting to stain his face.“I'll drive.„Valu shook her head.“No.Are you nuts?You are not going to drive like this!„He looked at her with a pained face and through gritted teeth he whispered.“My best friend needs me.It's bad enough that I put her in this mess.I'll drive„She searched his face and saw that there was no way she could change his mind and they were just wasting time.So she handed him the keys.“Fine but let's go.„Agus took the keys and nodded.Valentina looked at the shocked faces that were staring at them and just shook her head.She opened the door and after they got out,slammed it shut.They run to her car getting into it.Agus drove them to Kope's house where they found her mother in what could only be described as a mess.Agus was a mess too and Valentina was the only person keeping it together.Patricia got into the car and they started driving around passing every street around the house and then the way Carolina probably walked home.They went back to Karol's house and after they took a few turns they came across an empty street and a very disturbing image.A young girl was being dragged along the road from her hair to a black car.She looked exhausted but refused to give up so she kicked that guy with everything she had and got away from him only to run a few meters before he caught her again.He slapped her and kicked her letting her fall to the ground with her head.They couldn't see the girl very clearly but Valentina could clearly see some blood around the pavement from what seemed like a long fight.Agus slowed down and turned off the lights.He drove closer quietly making sure he wouldn't be seen.The man tried to pick up the girl on his shoulders but she bit his hand making him drop her to the ground again.He cursed under his breath and the girl tried to crawl.He picked her back to her feet making her look at him.As Agus drove closer he no longer just saw her long brown hair but he could see her face too.He gripped the wheel and his eyes widen while tears gathered in it when he saw that Carolina was the girl fighting hard for her life.The side of her head had blood and her face was dirty and pained.He felt frozen and he only woke up when a whimper sounded from the back seat where Patricia was sitting.Valentina looked at him with a shocked face and she covered her mouth with her hand while tears gathered in her eyes.Agus looked back at Kope who was taking the slaps from the man while she tried to escape.He tried to hold it together.He had to help her.She didn't look like she could fight for much longer.He looked at Valentina trying to form a plan.“Valentina,Mrs Patricia.When I get out of the car you'll get out and come sit at the front as fast as possible without being seen.Valentina you'll drive and park the car on the side of the road while you call for the police.Okay?„Valentina nodded furiously her head and once Agus got out she ran to the driver's seat while Patricia got in the passenger's seat.She parked the car and with trembling hands got her phone out calling the police.Agus ran to the spot where the man was now holding Kope by her neck while screaming at her.He ran behind him and without thinking about it turned him around dropping a hard punch on his face.Carolina fell to the floor gasping for air and when she looked up she saw Agus fighting that man who attacked her while she was walking home.She whimpered afraid for Agus and tried to stand up.The man was too focused on Agus that almost didn't see her move.Almost.He did notice her and tried to throw a punch to her stomach but Agus caught his hand and threw a punch to the man's face instead.“YOU'LL NEVER TOUCH HER AGAIN!„He shoved him to the ground.Agus glanced at Carolina his face softening.He tried to talk to her seeing as the man looked unconscious.“Kope.I'm so sorry.I'm-„He touched her face carefully and between her tears she tried to smile at him.“It's not your fault.„He started crying again.“Yes it i-„A huge pain from something hitting him from behind didn't let him finish and he let a huge shout of pain.Kope screamed afraid at the sight of the man back up.Agus threw a punch to the ground and the next one landed on the man's stomach.Kope touched her dizzy head in pain when the loud noise of the police sirens rang in her ears.Agus smiled and with all he had he shoved the man to the wall.Just like that b****d did with his Carolina.The man's eyes widen and he run to escape.“Youbare NOT going anywhere!„He caught him and this time the man hit the floor.Police officers run to them and got the man.Agus thanked them and for the first time in the last hour he could breath again.Kope's eyes started closing and that got Agus attention.He dropped to his knees next to her wiping some tears .“No.No.Stay with me.Kope.Stay with me.It's okay baby.It's over.I'm here.I'm here baby.„He picked her up bridal style and kissed her forehead.She opened her eyes a little.“Agus.„Her voice was above a whisper but he could hear her perfectly.“Yes.I'm here.I'm here.„She tried to smile at him in an attempt to hide the obvious pain she was in.“Thank you.I love you.„He kissed her forehead again fresh tears gathering in his eyes.“I love you.„He whispered at her his lips still on her forehead.Valentina and Patricia rushed to them while the man was being taken to prison.Carolina saw them.“Mom.Valentina.„Patricia ran to her daughter hugging her while she was still held by Agus.“Caro.You are okay.„Carolina smiled at her mom.“I am.Thanks to him.„Valentina smiled at Carolina.“I'm glad you are okay.„Kope smiled back at her.“Thank you.„Agus could still feel that her whole body was tense and she was still trembling from shock and because she was freezing.“Valentina where is the car?„She pointed at the right.“Next block.I was afraid that if he saw us he would kill you on the spot.I couldn't risk it„She explained.Agus looked back at Carolina who was now awfully quiet and was trying to get closer to him to warm herself up.He glanced at Valu.“Um.Can you go bring it?„She nodded and started walking to the car dragging Kope's mom with her.“Close to here about two minutes away there is a shop.I think I can get a blanket for her.Will you be okay?„Agus nodded and she winked at him understanding that he needed some time alone with her before she kept walking.Agus sat back down on the pavement holding her in his arms still. He took of his jacket placing it on top of her so she could use it as a blanket to warm herself.She wanted to protest but she didn't have the energy so she just cuddled with it.She closed her eyes a little trying to calm down,embrace the warmth and the comfort of being in Agus arms.She felt safe like this.She opened her eyes to look at him but he already beat her to it already staring down at her.He kissed her forehead.“I'm so proud of you.„She almost chuckled but her throat hurt.“Why?„He smiled brushing her hair.“You are a little warrior.„She smiled back at him.“I am not.„He shook his head a little disagreeing with her.“Yes you are.The way that you fighted.I admire you for finding the strength to do so.„She closed her eyes and groaned a little when her head hurt.He panicked and tried to figure out what was hurting.“Hey.Hey.Hey.What is it?„She opened her eyes.“My head.It's still hurting from being shoved to the ground.„He hugged his little warrior tighter blaming himself for all of this.She saw him struggling and even though her whole body hurted she hugged him back tighter.He pulled his head back to look at her.“I can't believe I almost lost you.If anything happened to you I never would be able to forgive mysel-„She putted her finger on his mouth to tell him to stop.“I'm okay.„He took a deep breath lost in his own head.“I meant what I said earlier.I love you.You mean everything to me.I'm in love with you.I know this is the worst possible time but-„She didn't let him finish.She raised her head a little bit and kissed him softly.She kissed back placing his hands on her cheeks.She pulled back and cuddled to his chest.“I'm in love with you too.It's not a bad time.„He smiled brightly at her and was thankful that from this awful day something good came out.She looked at the sky while they waited but all he could do was look at her.Tonight was a nightmare.Be couldn't put into words how the last hours made him feel.He kissed the top of her head for the millionth time since he saved her making sure that she is real and safe in his arms.“I can't lose you„She looked back to his eyes.“You won't.„He planted a soft kiss on her lips carefully like he was afraid that she would break.When they pulled back a comfortable silence fell between them.Agus looked up and finally saw the car.Valentina waved at them from the driver's seat and pointed to the empty back of the car where they would sit.Agus got up picking her up with him and walked to the car.Patricia got out and opened the door for them to get in.Agus got them both in while Carolina's mom got back in.Valentina handed Agus the blanket and he wrapped it up around the girl in his arms who closed her eyes.Valentina started the car.“We are going to the hospital to check her and to check the bleeding on the side of her head.„Agus gently turned her head to the side a little to look at the spot that Carolina was earlier bleeding.“She is no longer bleeding but it's best if we check it.„Valu looked at the mirror and nodded her head.Carolina opened her eyes a little and Agus smiled down at her.“How are you feeling?„She half smiled.“Better.My head is a lot better and I'm not dizzy anymore.„Patricia turned around.“I'm glad baby.„Carolina raised her hand and touched her mom's.“Thank you.„Her mom smiled and placed a kiss on her daughter's hand.She turned back around and Carolina snuggled close to Agus again.Agus looked down at her to see her sleeping peacefully.He kissed the side of her head and then whispered in her ear so only she could hear.“I love you.„
