Caged Fire

Abacus has a magic that he can not control. Since he was only five years old, he's lived on fire. The first time his body lit, he burned his home to the ground, and his parents with it. He ran from the ashes, but he was only a child, who happened to be living on fire. He was captured by the guards, who severely burned themselves while grabbing him. Those guards were forced into retirement, along with others who were burned while they figured out how to contain the boy.
Now, fifteen years later, you stand guard in front of a door deep below even the dungeons of the castle. You are ordered to stay on one side of a line painted on the floor, away from the door. The only person allowed to cross that line and enter the room is a mage sent down with food for Abacus, who is locked inside on the opposite side of the door.
You grew curious one day, as to why you must remain on one side of the line, and step over it to peer inside of the other room through the small window on the door.
