My name is Embry Owens.
I live with my mom and my twin brother Quinn, and half-brother Nick. My mom never talks about our father. He left us when we were born and that's all I know.
My mom did end up getting remarried when I was two. His name was Roger. I never liked him. They had a kid, a boy. They named him Nick, my half brother.
The marriage didn't last too long before my mom caught Roger kissing another woman. She forgave him but then a little over a month later she walked in on him sleeping with the same woman.
They divorced and they got shared custody of Nick. Then one day Nick came over with bruises all over his stomach and arms. My mom confronted Roger about it and he slapped her. My mom then fought for full custody of Nick. She got it easily and Roger spent 2 years in jail for abuse.
During that time we lived in Springfield, Illinois. But once my mom got full custody of Nick, we moved to Hammond, Louisiana for a fresh start.
Hammond is right in between Baton Rouge and New Orleans so I was pretty excited for the move. Quinn and Nick however, could be anything but excited. Quinn and I were about to be juniors and he wanted to stay until we graduated, Nick just didn't want to leave his friends. He was about to start his freshman year.
August 12th was the official move day. School starts on the 24th. God have mercy on this family.
