"I'm Aubrey. Aubrey Collins-Healan." Aubrey greeted, sort of mocking his own introduction.

"I know," Calum said, twisting his body to remove the awfully massive backpack from between the two of them and cramming it next to his rather large bass case. What a burden playing an instrument was.

Ignoring his rather creepy (as Aubrey found it) statement, she asked him, "Why do you want me to sit with you?''

"Why not?" Calum shrugged.

"Okay, but why did you specifically want me to sit with you?" Aubrey questioned.

"Why not?" Calum shrugged again. This was not the answer Aubrey had hoped to hear.

"What's it with you and 'why not?' ?" Aubrey wondered. She has a tendency to ask one too many questions and that tendency lead to pissing one too many people off.

"What's it with you and asking so many questions?" Calum asked, smiling a little. Their banter seemed amusing to him. It was interesting. Very different from his usual conversations with girls, if he even had any.

Aubrey sighed, crossing her arms and legs, looking around the dingy bus. She could easily tell which clique was which. It wasn't a hard thing to do. She let her gaze travel to the back of the bus, where the juniors and seniors sit. She found Ashton's little group. Luke was looking at her. When he noticed that she too was staring back, he managed a little wave. Aubrey smiled, more for self-enjoyment than for Luke to see, and turned back around to face Calum.

"Is he your boyfriend?" Calum pondered. He seemed a little too upset over Luke's little crush on her than he should have.

"No,'' Aubrey suddenly got defensive, "Why would you think that?"

"Because you two were just flirting with each other," Calum smirked. Another way to pick up their playful banter? Calum couldn't let this one slip away from him.

"Shut up!" Aubrey hit him, but not hard. She liked Calum. "No we weren't!"

Calum put his hands up in mock surrender and raised his eyebrows suspectingly at her. She supressed a very obvious grin and turned away from him (in order to play along with their childish squabble of course, how could anyone simply be angry with Calum?).

"Aw, come on Aubrey," Calum whined.

She whipped her head back to face his, "yes?"

"You can't be that mad," Calum reasoned. She was simply acting ridiculous.

"Ugh, whatever," Aubrey gave up the act. "We should at least get to know each other though, don't you think?"

One of Aubrey's least favorite things to do. Over 90% of the people she told about herself to, she believed, couldn't give one fuck about it. Nobody ever really listened to what she had to say (minus Ashton, Regina, Luke, her parents, and her cat). But this essential activity, was Calum's favorite thing to do. He loved finding out about people and their interests. He liked taking the time to figure someone out. He thought that maybe he'd be psychologist and anaylaze people when he grew up.

"I think that's a grand idea," Calum agreed. "So my favorite color is red, my favorite food is noodles, and my all time favorite movie that I have ever seen is Dead Poets Society."

"That's not what I meant," Aubrey informed him. "You're telling me the lame stuff, even though I agree that everything you just said is great, that's not what I want to know. I want to know about you and your feelings and your experiences and what makes you tick and your weird fetishes."

"Okay then," Calum smiled. He had a strange occurrence that this form of getting to know someone may be more fun than the normal version. Not that there really is a normal way to get to know someone.

They spent the rest of that five minutes discussing things that are very hard to tell to your most beloved friend. Isn't it funny how it can be easier to trust someone who knows next to nothing about you than someone who knows everything? Calum and Aubrey were the last ones off the bus that chilly October day. Because they knew as soon as they stepped off that shitty yellow bus, that they would have to wait a full six hours before talking to each other again.

That day was when it all started.
