Ashton's POV

It's been a week since we've started high school.

Luke and I have been drifting apart. He's been hanging out with Calum and Michael. We still called each other every night and sat by each other at lunch, which I was grateful for. He wouldn't hang out with those two at lunch.

Which changed today.

I sat down at the lunch table, lightly tossing my lunch box on the table. I knew Luke had a teacher right now that had the 'I Dismiss You, Not The Bell' rule. Those teachers were the worst teachers that someone could ever have. Like, bitch, that's what it's there for.

I saw Luke walk in, giving a small glance my way. He walked towards the table Calum and Michael sat at, which was also known as the popular table. I tried to shake it off. Maybe it was just for one day? I'll just call him later. He'll explain then.

I ate quietly until the bell rang. I went to my locker, tossing my lunchbox inside and grabbing my books. I had got it out of Luke's locker before lunch, but he wasn't there when I got it. I figured he had just gotten held back in class...I didn't think he would've ditched me.

I shook it off, heading to math class. I had some classes with the sophomores, as I was really smart. Sure, I got called a nerd or a geek at times, but I won't apologize for being smart. That's not my problem.

I got tripped on my way in, but I just turned around and kicked them in the ankle, smiling widely at them. Bastard. I sat down in the back, right by the window. I normally looked out it instead of watching the teacher. I know everything that he's going to teach. Not to brag.

I looked out the window, waiting for the teacher to come into the classroom. I couldn't keep my mind off Luke.

So I just thought of Luke the entire period.

As soon as school was out, Luke ran up to me. He kept apologizing, and I just kept telling him not to worry about it. I could tell he was genuinely sorry.

"Want to come over and hang out? So I can make it up to you?" He asked. I swallowed loudly. I knew he wasn't talking about what I was hoping for, but so what? I can dream.

"Sure." I said, walking to his car with him. I threw my floral bag in the bag seat, sitting in the passenger side. Laugh at me for having a floral bag, but I think it's cute as fuck.

"Your bag is so pretty and pink." Luke teased. I stuck my tongue out at him. I sometimes wonder if I've ever really grown up. Floral backpack, kitten lunchbox, just everything. I've even been told that I look like a kid with my dimples.

"Your bag is so blue and boring." I said, crossing my arms. He laughed, backing out of the parking lot and turning on the radio. Nirvana flowed through the speakers as I rolled my window down. I laid my head out the window. I listened as Luke sang quietly along to the radio.

Soon we got to his house. I grabbed our bags and went to his room while he went to the kitchen. He said he had to called someone, which I assumed was his mum. I fell back onto his bed and opened some game on my phone. I think it was called Flying Bird? Wait, Flappy Bird. Luke had downloaded it on my phone and told me I couldn't delete it, since I would never get it back. I didn't really care since it didn't take up much space.

A small scream escaped my mouth as Luke flopped himself on top of me. I jumped, dropping my phone on my face. He laughed at me, grabbing my phone and playing Flappy Bird. I grabbed his Play Station 3 remote and started playing Call of Duty.

"Back out of your game." Luke said, grabbing the player 2 controller.

"Hell no. I'm dominating these bitches." I replied, stabbing a guy from behind. Before I could stop him, Luke got up off of me and tickled me. He grabbed the controller and backed out of the match, handing me player 2 while he took player 1.

"I hate you." I said, crossing my arms while the next match loaded.

"No, you love me." He said, leaning against his wall. I shook my head.

"Say you love me." He said, faking seriousness. I laughed.

"I love you." I said. He smiled at me, which I returned. I moved myself to his lap, and he wrapped his arms around my waist. This was normally how we played video games. No homo Hemmings, though. Can't say the same for me, but he doesn't know that.

His phone started vibrating on his nightstand, which was annoying as hell. I paused the game.

"Answer your damn phone." I said, leaning my head back on his shoulder. He grabbed it, swiping the screen and holding it to his ear.

"Hello?" He said into the phone. I played with his free hand, randomly bending his fingers. I heard the muffled sound of someone talking. It sounded like a boy. Luke continued talking while I just zoned out completely.

"Ashton, I want you to get to know Michael and Calum. They're on their way here." Luke said. That got my attention. He knew how much I hated meeting new people. I just nodded, trying not to let him know how scared I was.

Luke's POV

I jumped up and paused the game when I heard the doorbell ring. I trusted Ashton to keep the game paused while I went to answer the door.

"Hey." I greeted as I opened the door, revealing Michael and Calum. The two stepbrothers waved, making their way into the house.

"Where's Ashton?" Michael asked. As if on cue, Ashton came running down the stairs.

"You just got assassinated, bitch!" He yelled, pointing at me. He was jumping around in circles. I knew he hadn't noticed the other people in the room, because if he did, he wouldn't be acting like this.

"You said you would keep it paused!" I yelled back.

"I say a lot of things." He said. He stopped jumping, finally looking at me. His smile dropped as he noticed the laughing boys behind me.

"Uh, have you been here the whole time?" He asked, nervously yanking at his bracelets. If he pulled any harder, they would snap right off. Michael nodded.

"I'll just go." Ashton said, rushing towards the door. I grabbed his arm, pulling him into a hug. He hugged back before making his way out the door. I knew better than to stop him. I thought he'd be able to handle them. I guess not.

I brought Michael and Calum in my room. They never asked about Ashton. They told me to ditch him. I couldn't do that. Could I?
