The Zone

Chapter 5:

Jaxon's P.O.V
Walking down the uneven roads the smell of decaying bodies from the houses surrounding me, I look about at the street, every house and road seems the same. The same little red roof, the same brick walls and gravel drive way. 'How boring' I thought to myself.
Still walking I suddenly hear a scream, that puts me in alert I sprint down the middle of the gravel road towards the source of the commotion, pulling my knife out of my pocket as I am running. That's when I see it. Don't get me wrong I have seen it before but it still comes as a shock. Blood leaking from its flesh which is peeling off of its body, the clean white bone clearly visible beneath the ravaged flesh. Quickly dragging its damaged body towards a. Girl? I charge towards where the action is, the uneven gravel still beneath my feet as I speed up. Still running I charge past the creature on my way swiftly parting it's head from its body. It's now lifeless body falling to the gravel with an audible thump. At the now deadly silence the girl turns towards me, the zombie at my feet, leaking blood.
I quickly walk up to the girl and put my large hand on her cheek. She nuzzles into my hand closing her eyes and then opening them. Taking in her profile. The blonde ombré hair, defined face with full lips and ocean blue eyes. She is tall and skinny but not too bony. My thoughts are suddenly interrupted by the sound of two people walking cautiously towards us. As if not to scare us away. "Xena?" The smaller of the three questions, her green eyes with golden flecks flicker from the both of us, her slim bony body in a tense position. 'Xena. Such an unusual name' I thought to myself.
Realising what Xena was doing she pulled back and looked into my emerald eyes curiously, but also wary.
"Who are you?" The girl with the green eyes and the boy with The dark brown eyes with a muscly build question me, alarm clear in their sharp but cautious faces.
" Jaxon. Jaxon Hallows. " I state simply.
My eyes darting to Xenas face, a waiting her reaction, but her face has kept a deadly calm and is now wiped of all confusion.
" What the fuck was that thing? " she questions her voice betraying the calm facade on her face.
" That. Was a zombie. " I answer deciding it would be best not to beat around the Bush.
" A zombie? " the girl with the green eyes questions disbelief in her face and voice.
" Yep, sure was. Welcome the the apocalypse. " I confidently say smirking at her expression, while shooting a wink at Xena.

Ace's P.O.V
'Who does this guy think he is.' I angrily state to myself.
'Acting a big hero. Well big whoop! We were doing just fine without him! And if this asshole even tries to touch Xena I'll kill him! She my illegitemate sister! Forfuckssake.'
I give this dude a once over from feet to head, but as I got to his head I could see that he was still staring intently at Xena still. 'That's it. I'm voicing my opinion.'
" Who do you think you are?? "
" Thank you for your help but we were doing just fine. I think you best be on your way now. " I say barely containing my building anger for this dickhead.
He whips his head up, eyes quickly darting to my face (which I hope seems calm).
" Well i am the guy that just saved all of your asses and from where I was standing which was near. You two were both prepared to leave her to die. " he says his eyebrows pulling into an annoyed expression, his eyes green flickering with anger.
" Uh guys? How about we go and talk about this somewhere less open " Aella states, throwing nervy glances down and along the street.
" Good idea. " Xens nods approvingly. Her eyes trained on the intended target. Aella's house.
" I don't want to hear anymore arguing from you two either. " Xena exclaims as if an afterthought. Slowly limping her way back towards the home turning her back on the three of us. Her voice before said she wasn't angry but her body language said she was pissed.
" Uh we should probably go as well, before we piss her off even more. " I suggest to the remaining group.
" I second that. " Aella announces. Inching closer towards me I notice, slightly chuffed.
" Fine. Whatever. " Jaxon mumbles. Soudlessly walking after Xena, attempting to make small talk.
" What are we gonna do about him " I mutter quietly to Aella.
" Don't be difficult, we will see what happens ".

Inside the Aleysa's house.

Jaxon's P.O.V
The quiet ticking of the clock on the créme wall was the only sound in the room. I could feel the tense atmosphere in the air. Aella was obviously looking for her. Mum? I think that who she was looking for cause she kept throwing glances towards where the stairs were, which I presume was where her dad came from, but she is also sidelong glancing at Ace. Ace was also keeping a close eye on Aella but tapping his large foot on the hard wooden floors below us, and Xena was quite obviously trying not to fall asleep, her blue eyes were beginning to close.
" Its fine Xena you can sleep if you want to, we will wake you if anything happens. " Aella says in a soothing voice. Obviously noticing at the same time I did that she was gonna pass out at any second.
" Ok, that might be a good idea. But please you guys get sleep as well." she breathed deeply. A few seconds later she was out.
" Well that didn't take long " Ace laughs quietly, Aella joining in.
' How can they be easygoing about this! The town is overrun with Zombies her dad got his head chopped off and they almost left their friend for dead! ' I flicker my eyes up the them and glare, they both meet my eyes and the laughter dies out.
" Well she wouldn't have been tired if you two would have helped her, I don't know when you were being chased down. " I retort back dropping my gaze to her sleeping face just to see as her head drops down onto my shoulder, I can feel her even breaths down the side of my neck. ' That can't be too comfortable. ' I think to myself and decide to move her head down onto my lap. After I had sorted her out I look up again to see the pair of them looking at me.
I shrug.
" I think we should take turns keeping a look out so that we dont get jumped by anything. " I suggest to the remaining conscious group. " Or anyone " I say as an after thought.
" I think the best person to start is Ace, and let the ladies sleep. " I state simply.
" Why cant you do it?! " Ace complains to me.
" Well I would have to move Xena, which would probably wake her up. Then I would let you deal with the angry girl. " I smirk at him.
" Fine. Whatever. " he says shortly. His blundering foot steps can be heard checking the house up and down. I look over at the silent Aella and see that she is already asleep and has probably been for a while, we just didn't notice.
I decide that I might as well get some sleep too, seeing as it is going to be a long day tomorrow. Once again I hear the silent ticking, but this time is it slowly lulling me to sleep. Content with Xena in my lap and in a comfortable position, I let the dark pull me down into a deep sleep.
