"Chirp, chirp, chirp".
Cicadas. I could hear only that sound. When you need to be alone in the silence, but that silence never comes. There's always something making noise, something saying "hey, I'm here, too", even if, according to many, the sound a cicada makes is already synonymous with loneliness. But somehow cicadas are always there. You can't see them, but you hear them a lot, especially in summertime. At that point, I was walking for an hour, far away from the family manor, going on to the horizon and then the Sun was starting to fade and it seemed like it submerged into the still waters of the lake I got to. I sat on a rock protruded on the edge of the lake.
"Chirp, chirp, chirp".
Even if I wanted silence, this sound started to be comforting. They spoke and rambled, but it didn't seem like they were insulting. Or even if they were insulting, I couldn't understand them. Maybe they were saying: "you suck, shame on you, faggot, weird, monster, ugly"; as everyone. But I couldn't know that, so they were even saying: "you're beautiful, you aren't weird, you're normal, there's nothing ugly about you, no matter who you love, because love is love". So I tolerated them and they kept me company. I kept my eyes on the sunset and I started to throw stones figuring that they were words, those words they told to me, every bad word sinking in the water, where nobody hurts. Then the horizon orange was blurring, in fact the sky above me had just become dark blue, and between orange and blue it was violet. I almost smiled wondered. Then I threw a bigger stone and it sank.
"You know, if you continue throwing stones in this way, they won't go far away".
I jumped after hearing that unexpected male voice and I almost slid down the rock falling in the water.
" I don't want to send them away, I only want not to see them again." I answered by referring more to the insults than to the stones.
" Well, but you may see them sooner or later. It's no good hiding them under water because when it's drought, they will resurface".
Then I turned around, hurt by that words. The first thing I noticed watching him were his huge blue eyes, which were shining; then I saw his fine featured face and his tall and skinny figure. He smiled at me, and I smiled at him too, then I looked away embarrassed. He approached and sat next to me. We get back watching the sunset and the last rays of sunshine.
"My name is Charlie." He offered me his hand. I shook hands hesitantly. "David".
"I have never seen you out here" he said. "In fact this is the first time I come here." I answered.
"Instead, I am here almost every evening to watch the sunset. Here it's more peaceful than anywhere else, and wonders like the sun, colours, water, silence..."
"There is no silence, because the cicadas sing"
He looked at me. "Well, can you understand what they are telling?". I looked at him too and I shook my head. "No, who knows what they are saying...".
" Maybe like me they are commenting on the wonders around them, especially one that doesn't often come here."
"I thought you were coming here every evening, weren't you?". He laughed. "I wasn't talking about me, but thank you for saying it". My face got completely hot and I looked away.
"Thank you too" I whispered.
We continued watching the sunset until the sky was completely dark blue. After that he stood up. "I believe that my everyday-date with this lake ended. See you tomorrow?" he asked.
I stood up. "I don't know if... I'll be here tomorrow, it was nice to meet you, goodbye Charlie..." I didn't end the sentence , because suddenly he got close to me and he kissed me. It was a fulmineous kiss but it was full of hope and I didn't have enough time to know and to answer what was happening. "I hope our kiss would be a reason for you to come back tomorrow" He smirked and winked at me, then he backed off and went away, leaving me standing alone with only the sound of the cicadas keeping me company, but unlike few minutes before, smiling.
I hope you like it. Dm if you want me to continue the story.
Soon the Italian version.
