With a huge sudden struggle, he sat up.

Where was he? What in the world happened?

"Ah! You're awake!"

Donghyuck jolted, immediately putting his fists up in defense, much to his aching body's strain.

"Calm down, silly. It's me, Jeonginnie," a young boy came to sit next to him.

Pulling him close by his clothing, the boy whispered.

"If you want to live, act like you know me. If you don't I'll have to kill you right here," a familiar blade was put up against Donghyuck's back.

"H-Hey..." Donghyuck managed, putting his hands down awkwardly.

"Good," the boy whispered before pulling the blade away.

"Jeonginnie, you know this boy?" A new voice asked.

"That kid-- er, your Jeongin knows him?" Another said.

Donghyuck looked around to see eight other boys, all staring at him with skeptical looks on their faces. One looked ready to kill him, which the cafe-haired avoided his stare. They were all in black, but they didn't have masks on.

"Yep! This is Haechannie!" Jeogin smiled. "He was new in our gang. I didn't expect that he was coming here too."

"He's from your old gang..?" One of the boys said.

At that remark, most of them softened a bit. Somehow, Donghyuck was amazed by how natural this boy was acting. He couldn't have been older than him. But why was he keeping Donghyuck alive? Also... what gang? Why did they soften at that?

"Make something up," Jeongin whispered to him before speaking again. "Haechannie, tell them about how you got into the gang."

Okay, that was something Donghyuck was NOT ready for.

"..U-Um... I..." Donghyuck looked to Jeongin awkwardly.

"Say whatever," the mouthed.

"Ah... I uh... my dad was being hunted by another gang and the police so..." Donghyuck hoped it was convincing. "...I went to a gang for help..?"

The guys gave him a long stare. Some put their hands on a few guns. Donghyuck gulped. Even Jeongin bit his lip.

"OOOH YOU POOR THING WHAT DID THEY DO TO YOU?!" A guy tackled him with a sob.

"Here child, have some chicken," another held up a box and held out a piece with chopsticks.

"Hey, just know that you're free to stay with us," a calmer guy ran a comforting hand through his hair.

"Who's after you dad? Maybe I should greet them hello," one playful voice loaded his gun.

"I don't buy it," one guy muttered, sharp jawlined and skeptical.

"Lighten up, Changbin. It's Jeonginnie's friend," another said.

"Sorry kid," a familiar, deep voice said.

"You scared him," another, even deeper voice told him. "He looks okay though. You should try to make amends."

"Hey..." The deep-voiced blonde guy bent down to his level. "Look, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you."

"Chan's just scary when he's scared too," a playful voice said.

"Shut up Minho!" Chan said. His voice became warm and friendly to Donghyuck's surprise, "I didn't shake you up too bad, did I?"

"He literally passed out," the calm voiced guy said.

"Oh be quiet Seungmin!" Chan groaned.

"Hey there, I'm Felix," the deeper voiced guy shook his hand gently. "That over there is Changbin-hyung. He's hard to warm up to, but he's a nice guy."

"A-Ah..." Donghyuck awkwardly nodded.

"Here dear," the guy with the chicken made him take a piece. "I'm Woojin, dear. The guy sobbing like a baby is Hyunjin. Please feel free to tell him if you're uncomfortable. He gets emotional sometimes."

Donghyuck could only hold back his confused and weirded out face as he nodded at Woojin.

"Wanna listen to some music?" A full-cheeked guy offered him some earbuds. "You may want to relax. You've probably been through a lot."

"No wait Jisung," Woojin said. "Let him eat first. Poor guy just came down from his fever a while ago."

Jisung... but not our Park Jisung. This guy looks like a squrriel compared to our baby chick.

"Okay," Jisung put them away. "Cheer up! We're here with you!"

Donghyuck couldn't help but feel comforted. They were strangers, but they definitely were warm in this cold part of southern Seoul. It was as if his friends were actually here.

Friends---

Oh no. Jaemin. Where's Jaemin?!

But Donghyuck could only push that away from now. Trying his best to hide his mortified realization, he pointed slowly to two figures behind the nine of them.

"W-Who is that...?" He quietly asked.

"Oh," Minho said. "That's---"

He didn't need to finish. Donghyuck knew who they were. Tied up to two metal posts were Coups and Mingyu, knocked out and motionless.

Donghyuck then realized his surroundings.

He was in a brick building.
