You tried to convince your mother, who was a very high ranking servant in the house of Odin, you didn't want to go to the royal ball; well you believed there was no need. Yet, she insisted. That's what you kept thinking as she painfully strapped you into a highly uncomfortable dress, and scraped your hair back into a bun. She now began applying some make up to your pale face, though you believed you didn't need it. She insisted. She finally finished, pulling you over to the floor length mirror, gasping and stepping behind you. Your mouth hung open... You looked nothing like yourself, you looked like a princess. "Mom..." You breathed, looking back at her. "Oh, y/n, I'm so proud of you. You're growing up to be such a beautiful young woman." She said, pulling you into a very uncomfortable hug, tears pricking her eyes. You awkwardly returned the gesture, frankly it was hard to move. She pulled back, running her hands down your arms, and looking at you in admiration. "Go have fun now," she grinned, pushing you towards the door. Your heartbeat increased rapidly, as you neared the steps to the main ballroom. You could hear the various royalty, and high ranking officials chatting downstairs. You took a deep breath, beginning to stiffly walk down the steep, golden stairs. You breathed a small sigh of relief as you felt very few eyes glance your way; they were all too busy looking at the much more beautiful dresses. The ones your mother couldn't afford. You finally made it down the steps that made you nervous, pretty much beelining it towards the tables set out. You sat at one in the far back, taking more deep breaths; which was fairly difficult, taking in the fact your corset was pressing in on your lungs. Your breathing got more labored as many members of royalty filled in the tables around you, still no one sitting at yours. A server walked by, holding a platter full of elegant glasses filled with a bubbling drink. You took one as he passed, taking a very large sip; the slight buzzing in your head from the alcohol soothing you slightly. Your attention was drawn to the front of the room as Odin himself tapped lightly on a glass. The room fell silent. "I'd like to thank everyone for coming out this fine evening..." His booming voice went on and on. You looked to his left and right, seeing Thor; the older prince. Women were practically drooling, and falling at his feet. You chuckled, taking another sip of your drink. When you looked back up, your eyes locked with those of the younger prince... What was his name again? You thought to yourself, as he held your gaze. Loki, the name popped into your head unexpectedly. You were drawn back to attention, as everyone raised their glasses to a "For Asgard!" You and Loki looked away at the same time, your cheeks now a light pink color. You raised your glass in unison with everyone else in the room, before taking another drink. You smiled lightly, sitting correctly in your seat, waiting for the food to be served. You heard soft footsteps coming towards the left, of you, expecting the person to be a server. You shouldn't have been surprised when it wasn't; you couldn't hold someone's gaze for that long without it being noticed. You took a shaky breath as Loki walked smoothly beside you, smiling. He looked very attractive, donned in all of his formal armor. "May I sit here?" He asked softly, in his smooth voice. Your mouth suddenly got very dry, so all you could fathom was a nod. He chuckled lightly, taking the seat next to you. You took a few nervous breaths, looking down at your plate of food as it came. You could hear him begin eating, and you could hear the skeptical whispers of people around you. "Are you not eating?" He asked, you thought you could hear some slight concern lacing his words. You glanced up at him, then quickly back down at your plate. "Just a bit, uh, flustered is all." You say quietly, not really trusting your own voice. "It is alright if I sit here, is it not?" He asked, leaning a bit towards you. "Yes, you're fine. Fine." He chuckled a bit more, going back to his food. You could feel his bright, green eyes on your face. You took one last deep breath, before beginning to eat; you were famished. The two of you at in a somewhat awkward silence, mostly of the tremendous food that was brought before you both. You smiled in content, as you finished the desert course. You heard Loki sigh beside you as music began playing, and people began to dance. "I love this song." He said softly, leaning towards you again. You could feel the heat of his skin, and the coolness of his armor on your skin. "Would you care for this dance?" He said tenderly. You couldn't admit to him... That you couldn't dance. Instead you nodded, standing up with him, and taking the hand he had held out for you. He grinned at down at you, and you returned it with a slightly nervous smile. He took you both to the center of the dance floor, leaning towards you again. "You've never danced, have you?" He whispered in your ear, sending goosebumps down your arms. You shook your head no, smiling sheepishly. He chuckled, one of his hands finding your waist, the other gripping yours. "Alright, put your other hand on my shoulder." He said, grinning. You complied, a blush creeping from your neck to your face. He chuckled again, smiling in admiration down at you. You looked back up at him, finally meeting his gaze for as long as you did earlier. It wasn't as difficult as you expected, you smiled genuinely at him. You stiffly swayed to the music, completely sure you looked one hundred percent awkward at the moment. "You need to loosen up a bit, darling." He whispered, making your blush go even redder. "It's not very easy to move in this dress." You whispered back. "I can hardly breath." He hummed for a moment, thinking. With a snap of his fingers, the corset pushing in your lungs disappeared. He grinned mischievously. You looked up at him in disbelief, then down at yourself self-consciously. He sighed, taking his hand from your waist and tilting up your chin, looking you dead in the eye. "Still just as beautiful without it." His eyes glittered in the dim light, and your blush got deeper; if that was even possible. "Thank you, sir." You muttered, smiling down at the floor. "Please, just call me Loki." He smiled. "Does your beautiful face have a name to go with it?" He asked, making you smile. You looked back up at him. "Y/n." You state, gaining a bit more confidence. His smile got larger. "Just what I thought, as beautiful as you." You blushed, looking him in the eyes as you swayed more freely through the dance floor. He looked back at you, a smile in his eyes. You could see slightly that a rough circle had formed around you and Loki dancing, you both grinned at each other. The song was coming to an end, as sad as it was. Loki spun you out, then dipped you down in his arms just as the song ended. You blushed, as everyone around the both of you cheered, a proud look on Frigga's face. You didn't break Loki's gaze as he brought you back up, and the people began to disperse. He broke the gaze for a moment, waving towards his parents; before leading you from the main room. "Where are we going?" You ask softly, linking your arm with his. "You'll see," he smiles, mischief glinting in his eyes. You two walk to parts of the palace you've never seen before. He chuckles at your baffled face. He leads you to two very large oak doors. "I hope you like reading," he whispered, opening the huge doors. It was the palace library. Your mouth hangs open from the pure size of the place; not to mention it's beautiful. "Oh my, this is great." You whisper, looking up at him excitedly. He chuckles, bringing you close to him, making your blush return. "Do you like it?" He whispers, his warm breath drifting across your face. You nod slowly, locking eyes with him again. His smile fades, as he searches your face; all the while bringing his closer to yours. You do the same, glancing at his slightly parted lips. You can hear him take a breath before closing the gap between the two of you. Your eyes widen, then screw shut as you threw yourself at him. He chuckled, pulling away for a moment; making you feel empty and alone. "And now..." He kisses you tenderly for another moment. "You are mine." He whispered huskily, before kissing you again.
