It was another Thursday, just like any other. The cool winds beating my inky strands against my face. I gathered them up in an attempt to place them upon my head, only for the wind to free them from my grasp.

The birds in the oaks above me chirp loudly, almost as if they were mocking me. I grunted, got out of my seat and walked towards the small cafe near my work.

As I tug my black sweater closer to my figure, I hear I group of voices approaching from behind. I continue walking across the cool cement, making a left towards the stop lights. I press the small, black arrow and hear a satisfying 'wait'. I move forward a little to make room for the incoming crowd.

That's when my day takes a turn for the worse.

As the steps pad closer, I hear the snickering and inaudible words of at least ten youths. A loud hush fills the air as the anticipation thickens.

"Wait! Wait! Wait! Wait! Wait! Wai..." as they repeatedly tap the small arrow. At first it was alright and I didn't mind, but after about the eighth wait, I was ready to leave. Their laughter once again reached my ears, my hand itching to slap them. The red hand suddenly turns to a white pedestrian, freeing me from my prison.

I begin my trek across the open street, thankful for the distance between the group and myself.

Screams filled the air as my brain struggled to process what was happening. I looked back at the group of kids behind me, noticing a car as it sped towards them, swerving in and out of lanes.

My feet start moving without a second thought, moving back towards the sidewalk.

Run! My mind screams as my mouth is unable to articulate any words. As I close in on the teenager, so does the white Mercedes. I jumped forward and pushed they girl to the sidewalk and moved out of harms way. I stand up and lift the girl to her feet, concerned if she had a concussion or not.

I reach my hand out and ask, "Are you oka-" as an interfering force slams into me, propelling me into the asphalt. I take my last breath as my vision fades to black.
