I woke up to a thousand voices in my head. My brain ached from the cries, screams, whispers of unfamiliar and indistinct voices. Closing my eyes I closed my brain to only myself.

"Anybody there?" I thought to myself. To much pleasure I heard no response laying in bed I rolled over to phone wiping away my hair I looked at what had seemed to be 20 text messages from my boyfriend Columbus.

"Oh sweety when are you gonna learn patience? " I joked smiling at the picture of us I set as my phone background. Sensing my mother walking towards my room I quickly pushed thought that she should probably give me 10 more minutes in her head. I felt a little confusion but after a few seconds she cooperated with my suggestion. I almost never used my abilities on my parents but Oh my God this bed knew what I needed. After a long year of summer I wasn't looking forward to "Jackson's city Academy for the gifted " .... More like Academy for the freaks. I started going last year when I turned 15 they helped you learn about your abilities and if your were really in control of them you could be apart of this vilgilante team that worked with the police to help keep Jackson safe like some super hero's or something. I for one wasn't for putting my life on the line for people who didn't appreciate me. Anyway I finally gathered strength to get out of bed and take a shower. After putting on some clothes I found my mother sitting in the living room half asleep.

"Ready for the first day kiddo?" My mother said stretching her arms in the chair.

"You don't need to read thoughts to know the answer" I joked. She smiled rising up and walking pass me to grab my bookbag.

"Which reminds me... did you by any chance mess with me earlier?" She asked in a tone that implied she knew the answer.

"Umm if I tell the truth will I be grounded?" I replied.

"Read my mind and findout" She said.

I would.

"You gotta wash ALL the dishes" My mom said. I was relieved I felt thankful that mom was understanding of my abilities and understood the temptation of having such power. Lost in thought my mom shook me.

"You need to stop doing that Megan when you blank out it scares me "She said relaxing back in the couch. I laid on the couch next to my mom laying my head on her shoulder.

"I'll be fine" I assured her.

"You know your brain is just so vast I'm worried you'll get lost in it"She explained. Before I could answer a repetitive knock sounded at the door. It continued for several seconds annoyance grew in my mom I could feel it.

"I'm sorry mom patience is his downfall " I said quickly rushing to the door. As soon as I opened it Columbus was behind me talking about who knows what.

"------- And what do you think this year would be like? last year was a drag. You like Cheetos? I got some. The hot kind though cause I knooow how you -"

"COLUMBUS!" I exclaimed rising my voice a octave. He stood attention with his round brown eyes not leaving mine for a instance.

" Sorry. You know me. I just get one thought and it leads to another. +"

"Columbus calm down" I said softly not commanding him but just giveing him a big enough of a suggestion that his brain follows.

"You ok?" I said cheerfully. He looked at me confused then came back to reality.

"Yeah I'm good...Thank you" He said. "Hey Kim " he said directed towards my mom.

"Hey babe" She said smiling at him they built a pretty good relationship in the year Me and Columbus dated.Columbus giggled like a little kid.

"She called me babe" he l aughed. I rolled my eyes.

"I know sweetheart now take me to school" I said.

"You guys have like roughly 20 minutes to get there need a ride?" My mother asked. Columbus laughed rightfully so considering he can out run a porche in his sleep but I still shot him a stare to pay Respect.

"Columbus can actually carry me there he offered" I said

"More like begged" Columbus added.

"Oh Well if he can get you there in time then I guess.... Take care of my daughter Columbus "She said.

"Will do" Columbus assured. With that I grabbed my bookbag hugged my mom and left out the door.

"Walk with me for a bit" Columbus said speed walking. I had to jog to catch up with him.

"Slow down speedy Gonzalez" I said. He slowed up.

"Sorry but staying still in your house was torture" he complained.

" So Why are we walking?" I asked.

"The vigilante team. I wanna join. But with you." Columbus said.

"Baby I don't know I would have to talk with parents.... And besides do we really wannabe part of that?" I asked. Columbus looked at the sky walking straight down the sidewalk after a few moments he stood absolutely still.

"They say we got our power's from the sun... Our cells are like batteries recharging from the energy of the sun... Do you know what that means?" He asked with his eyes growing wide.

"No but I'm not liking the Bio lesson and I would really like to get to school baby" I said. Columbus rolled his eyes walking over he picked me by my legs and my back.

"Hold on we'll be their in a flash".
