"What did you guys talk about?" Luna asked following Tessa from the bathroom, to the bedroom, and back to the bathroom. She had not long been home, and Luna was desperate to know everything.
"Not much" Tessa shrugged as she wiped the remaining makeup off her face. "We didn't talk that much at all actually."
"So you sat there in silence?" Luna laughed, only to be shocked when her friend shrugged and nodded casually.
"We spoke a little bit about what subjects we do, and about what we were gonna order, and i told him that he didn't actually have to come with me if he didn't want to. Thats practically it."
"Wow, you guys are so lame" Luna sighed as she flopped down onto her bed lazily. To Tessa it felt a bit like a kick in the stomach- no wonder she hadn't ever had a boyfriend before.
She was just too boring, too awkward.
"Yeah well i didn't want to hang out with him anyway" she lied as she got into her own bed after turning the lights out for the night.
"That's a shame. I totally ship it. Goodnight tho" Luna said shuffling in her bed. After a few seconds the room was silent, leaving Tessa alone and staring blandly at the ceiling.
Not having had a boyfriend wasn't something to cry about, especially when you deny anyone's help and reject anyone who comes your way. Besides, true love doesn't exist. It always ends in a heart break. Maybe it was better off this way.
These were some of many thoughts that buzzed through Tessa's mind that night. They wouldn't disappear, but after almost an hour of lying there quietly she finally dozed off to sleep...
"Hey sweetie, how's uni since you've been back?" Tessa's dad smiled softly through the phone.
"Not too bad, yet. These first few days are pretty easy. By next week i'll be piled up with work and i'll be back to the no-sleep, no-nutrition lifestyle" she sighed while sipping from a cardboard coffee cup.
"Well take care of yourself for me and your brother. We miss not having you here with us" he said weakly, looking directly at his daughter.
Tessa nodded. "I promise."
"Good" he smiled. "And take care of your friend Luna, you need her."
Although her father had never met this friend of hers, he knew that they had a close bond. He'd spoke to her on facetime alongside Tessa on many occasions, and practically every sad or happy story Tessa had to share involved her friend.
"Speaking of friends, have you met any new ones?"
"No dad, it's still only Luna. But that's okay by me, she's all i need when i'm here."
"Okay hun, well i have to go and take your brother to his motorcycle practise so i've got to go. I love you."
"I love you too. If you get chance tell my brother too." She smiled. They quickly said their final goodbyes then ended the call.
That left Tessa alone in the cafe to finish her coffee in peace, and have a pleasant stroll back to her room.
Similarly to the previous night, Luna wasn't alone. She had the twins over again, and was sprawled on the couch in between them both.
"Hey T, what took you so long? Class ended at least an hour ago" Luna questioned. Tessa felt shy when she saw 3 pairs of eyes pinned on her, waiting patiently for a response.
"I went to call my dad" she smiled. Luna and the twins had no more questions, and allowed her to go and get changed into something other than skinny ripped jeans.
