"No!"

I jolted from the bed. The same old nightmare about the barn, I wish it could stop. It's been haunting me ever since I got there to get AJ. I turned to see the child on the opposite bed, sound asleep. Unlike me, I was wide awake after that nightmare. Guess some rounds around the school might do me some good, I thought.

The hallway was quiet, everyone should be sleeping now. It's pretty late. I closed the door gently behind me, only a slight click of the lock echoed down the walls. It was dark and creepy. But to my delight, it was not painted in red light of the barn like my nightmare. I would never forget that dream, that day when I entered it.

However, there was a slight noise coming from downstairs. That's odd. The gate should have kept the walkers out of the school. I reached for the knife in my pocket. Better to be safe than sorry, especially in a zombie apocalypse. Slowly walking down the hallway, trying not to make a sound to attract the walker here, which may also lead to the others waking up from their sleep.

I turned, facing the window below along the staircase. Slightly startled to see Violet by the window, the source of the noise. I lowered my knife while taking a closer look at the other female. Soft sniffles came from her as she looked out at the sky through the pane of glass. Lips pursed and eyes slightly red, it's colour reflected back to me by the misty glow of the moon. She was...crying? Is she okay? I thought as I walked down the stairs behind her.

Creak...

Violet turned around quickly, almost falling down and using the frame of the window for support. Shit! I must have scared her. She wiped her tear-stained eyes with the back of her hand, before tilting her head up to look at me.

"Oh! Hey Clementine, didn't expect you to be here." Violet said in a croaky voice. I walked down the stairs to stand beside her, enveloping her in a hug.

"What happened?" I asked, letting her go as I gave her a concerned look. She looked down again, shuffling her feet, choosing her next words.

"Nothing, it's fine Clem-"

"No there's something and you're not, you were crying." I interrupted. She looked up to make eye contact with me. Green eyes looking back at mine. They have never looked this beautiful, so deep. I could stare back at them for ages, admiring them for an eternity if I had the chance.

"It's stupid and embarrassing, you'll just laugh at me."

"I promise I won't, it may also lift up your spirits after letting it all out." I comforted.

"Okay then," she sighed. "I'm at a lost. Ever since Minnie left, I've felt so alone. Like no one was there for me anymore. I miss her so much, we were so close. I thought I could never move on. Screw that shit, I can't move on, that was..."

"That was what?" I asked.

"Until I met you, Clementine."

Me?

"You made me feel like I was not alone. That I had someone there for me. That I was cared for. That I was...loved. Like how I was with Minnie."

"And then, I had the worst nightmare. You were bitten by a walker while clearing a path for Aasim and Louis as they came back from hunting. That crawling asshole bit you right in the leg as you tried to kill a walker I didn't see. You were turning right in front of me, dying in my arms. It was all my fault. Like how it had been my fault for what happened to Minnie. She got killed as well because of me. I was crying so bad. I could not imagine what life would be without you," she started tearing up again, stuttering on every word she said next in a voice I would never recognise. Those tears rolling down her cheeks...were because of me?

"I didn't want you to leave! I-I lost so much already. When I finally thought I had someone there for me, you disa -disappear." Was she feeling the same way as I did towards her? Like how I felt butterflies in her stomach every time we talked? Blushing at the slightest touch? Always savouring every moment with each other?

"I would miss your laugh..."

I looked up to Violet, still letting all her tears flow out her eyes. I can't bear to see her like this. It made me feel so miserable and guilty, especially since I was the cause of this. I walked closer to her, the distance between us decreasing at each step. I had to do something.

"Your smile..."

I could feel butterflies in my stomach as I took my last step to see her face in her hands.

"Your jokes and sarcasm..."

I lifted up a hand slowly.

"Every moment together..."

Hands cupping her face as she spoke, lifting her chin up to see me. To know that I am still here for her. That I will never leave her.

"I would miss yo-"

She stopped as I leaned in to meet her lips. Her soft lips touched mine as we shared the moment. She tried to process what just happened which cut off her confession towards me. But once she did, she didn't pull back, following my cue and closing her eyes.  What I always wanted to do after all this time. Finally, on a breezy night under the moon's glow, we...

Kissed.

We looked up at each other as our lips parted, both cheeks turning red after what we just experienced. I smiled at her, happiness spreading throughout me. I was glad that she felt the same way.

"I'll never leave you Violet," I said as our foreheads touched, looking up at her smile up close. Another hand was placed on her cheek as I leaned in again.

"Because I'll always be here with you..."
