"Gryffindor!" It yelled
The students applauded as Lily sat next to a boy
"I'm James" he said
"I'm Lily"
Several scenes showed, them growing up, James bullying Severus.
Then it stopped changing and showed Dumbledore and Snape. Older.
"No. Please don't kill me" Snape said
"The prophecy did not refer to a woman." Dumbledore said, "It spoke of twins born at the end of July."
"Yes, but he thinks it's her children." Snape said, "He intends to hunt them down now, to kill them. Hide her. Hide them all. I beg you."
"What will you give me in exchange, Severus?" Dumbledore asked
"Anything." Snape said as the scene changed again
"Harry. Tessa, you are so loved. So loved. Mama loves you. Dada loves you. Keep each other safe.Be strong." Our mother said to two babies.
A voice yelled "avada kedavra!"
The scene changed. Dumbledore's office.
"You said you would keep her safe." Snape said, his voice cracking from tears
"Lily and James put their faith in the wrong person, Severus." Dumbledore said, "Rather like you."
"The twins survive. They don't need protection. The Dark Lord is gone." Snape said weakly
"The Dark Lord will return. And when he does, the twins will be in terrible danger." Dumbledore said, "they have her eyes."
Snape looked at him in slight surprise
"If you truly loved her" Dumbledore said
"...No one can know." Snape said
"I should never reveal the best of you, Severus?" Dumbledore asked
"Your word." Snape said
"When you risk your life every day to protect them both?" Dumbledore's voice echoed over several scenes
"They possess no measurable talent, Harry's arrogance rivals that of his father... and they seem to relish their fame." Snape's voice said
"Don't say a word against our father." Harry's voice said
"James Potter? Lazy, arrogant." Snape's voice said
"Our father was a great man." My voice said
"Your father was a swine!" Snape's spat.
The scenes slowed back to the office
"Drink the rest." Snape said, "It will contain the curse to your hand for the time being. It will spread, Albus."
"How long?" Dumbledore asked, looking at his blackened hand
"Maybe a year." Snape shrugged
More scene changes
"Don't ignore me, Severus." Dumbledore's voice echoed
"Harmonia Nectere Passus." Came Draco's voice
"We both know Lord Voldemort has ordered the Malfoy boy to kill me. But should he fail, one should presume the Dark Lord... will turn to you." Dumbledore said, "You must be the one to kill me, Severus. It is the only way. Only then will the Dark Lord trust you completely."
"Avada Kedavra." Snape's voice. Dumbledore's death flashed before us.
"There will come a time when Harry and Tessa Potter must be told something. But you must wait until Voldemort is at his most vulnerable." Dumbleodre said as the scenes slowed
"Must be told what?" Snape asked
"On the night Lord Voldemort went to Godric's Hollow to kill the twins... and Lily Potter cast herself between them the curse rebounded. When that happened, parts of Voldemort's soul... latched themselves onto the only living things they could find: the twins themselves. There's a reason they can speak with snakes."
Scenes of Snape walking through the house in Godric's Hollow appeared
"There's a reason they can look into Lord Voldemort's mind."
Snape walked past our father's body
"A part of Voldemort lives inside them each."
Snape fell back against the doorway of the nursery
"So when the time comes... the twins must die?" Snape asked
"Yes. Yes. They must die." Dumbledore said
Snape dropped to his knees beside our mother
"You've kept them alive so that they can die at the proper moment. You've been raising them like pigs for slaughter!" Snape's voice said
Snape held our mother close sobbing and the scene showed Snape in Dumbledore's office once more
"Don't tell me now that you've grown to care for them?" Dumbledore said
Snape drew his wand and swished it
"Expecto Patronum."
He casted a doe patronus
"Lily..." Dumbledore said, he looked at Snape, "After all this time..?"
"Always..."
It changed again
"So when the time comes..." Snape said softly, "the twins must die?"
"Yes. They must die." Dumbledore said, "And Voldemort himself must do it. That is essential."
The memories faded as Harry and I lifted our heads and looked at each other.
It was silent for what felt like hours.
Until finally, Harry spoke up.
"Neither can live while the other survives.." Harry said slowly, "that means-"
I drew in a shaking breath
"We have to die.."
