It was vast, and dark. The empty space that the young man found himself was naught but void. Yet there was a warmth as well, and one he could not recognize. He could remember little else before this moment, but that young man was there. And he was unafraid of the infinitude despite being unable to discern why.

"Uh, hello?"

His voice echoed around him, and no reply came to him. In the distance, however, he saw a tiny patch of li

"I can hear you talking, whoever you are. Where are you?"

...

"Okay, weird. Was I hearing things?"

In the distance was a patch of light that

"Yep, there you are again guy... or girl... both, maybe neither? It's hard to tell which gender you are from just your voice. What's your name?"

The response he expected never came and he went to investigate the distant light shining to his right.

"Come on, I just wanted to know who you ar--wait, there IS a light over there. The hell?"

As he walked, his thoughts continued to circulate and he collected his thoughts on what led him to this predicament. He thought, if I could understand why I'm here, I can maybe understand what may happen next.

"'What may happen next?' What are you talking about OH SHIT. Did I DIE?! Is this the afterlife or something?!"

He recalled his final moments while he waited for

"Aw, DAMN IT, I AM dead! What the hell, man, I only turned thirty last month!"

...He recalled his final moments while he SILENTLY made his own conclusions about his situation. He recalled walking along the field between roads on his way back from work. He felt something give way beneath him, and finally, his entire being was swept away, plummeting to an abrupt end.

"...Wait, did I die because I fucking fell in a HOLE?!"

Plummeting deeper and deeper, far more than one would expect from a sinkhole. An unusual occurrence, even in central Iowa.

"Okay, fine, it was a DEEP hole, whatever. Now, what's with this thing?"

He motioned to the light that came into focus, appearing to be an exact model of the Earth. Yet it was not exact, as there was an unexpected addition of a land mass between the western side of Africa and the eastern side of America. A wholly unknown location he was completely unfamiliar with: an eighth, unknown continent.

"Okay yeah, that IS really weird. I mean, I'll admit I'm not exactly a genius, but I know that there's only seven continents... or there's SUPPOSED to be seven. What's up with that?"

...As if a revelation from an unknown source, an ethereal third-party, came to him. The knowledge he desired came to him as if bespoke from an unknown formless being.

That continent was known as Zoan, a land of creatures of the same namesake. In his old world, such creatures would be known more commonly as any number of other names, but they would have the same qualities in common: humanoid bodies with the traits of animals. Such creatures originated from that landmass and through the passage of time propagated into the third most prevalent sentient species in the world, next to humans and

"Whoa whoa, back the hell up, please, weird voice. I've seen this kind of crap before in light novels. A guy dies, he finds himself in some kind of limbo, a vague open-ended explanation of another world is given to him... Did I just get freaking isekai'd?!"
