The Dragon's Call(1)

It was a peaceful day in Camelot. there was a calming breeze rustling the leaves on the trees. a young lad was walking through the lush, green countryside on his way to Camelot. The lad made his way to the lower town, smiling at the people going this way and that on the way to do who knows what and the rows upon rows of house lining the streets. the lad walked through the gates of Camelot with awe, passing many markets and people going around on their business, and into the citadel just as king Uther address the crowd.

A man was being led on the stage with two guards on either side and the executioner in front. Uther stood on the balcony and talks down to them. "let this serve as a lesson to all. this man, Thomas James Collin, is judged guilty of conspiring to use enchantments and magic. And, pursuant to the laws of Camelot .I, Uther Pendragon, has decreed that such practices are banned on penalty of death. I pride myself as a fair and just king, but for the crime of sorcery, there is one sentence I can pass ."

Uther raised his arm, then lowered it to signal the executioner. the drums beat in a slow march. he brought up his ax and swiftly brought it back down, beheading Thomas Collins.

"When I came to this land, this kingdom was mired in chaos, but with the people's help magic was driven from the realm. So I declare a festival to celebrate 20 years since the great dragon was captured and Camelot freed from the evils of sorcery. Let the celebrations begin."

A loud wailing sound echoed through the square.

An old woman dressed in brown rags pushed her way to the front of the crowd. "there is only one evil in this land and it is not magic!" she shouted. "It is you! With your hatred and your ignorance! You took my son! And I promise you before these celebrations are over, you'll share my tears . an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a son for a son. seize her!" Uther yelled.

Guards went to grab the woman but she hissed a spell into the amber necklace that she wore over her neck and disappeared into the whirlwind of smoke. When it cleared the woman had disappeared. king Uther looked on in despair and slowly and the crowd dispersed.

Having nothing else to watch, the lad made his way into the palace." where would I find Gaius the – the court physician?" he asked a nearby guard. The guard pointed in the direction of the physician's chambers and he was on his way. The lad climbed up some steps to the physician's chambers. he knocked softly on the half-opened the door and peeked inside.

He wandered inside and saw lots of little tools and objects littering the tables. he then saw Gaius standing at the top of the stairs, looking for a book. "hello?" Gaius didn't seem to notice or hear anything so he tried again. "Gaius?" when he still didn't stir, the lad cleared throat. Startled, Gaius tripped over backward from the bookshelf stairs and, under his weight, the railing broke and he started to fall to the ground. Instinctively, the lad's eyes glowed golden and time slowed. he then used his magic again to move a bed under Gaius before he had hit the floor.

Gaius landed on the cot with a groan and the lad let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding. Gaius scrambled out of the cot and rushed over to where the lad stood frozen.

"What did you just do?" he asked forcibly.

"erm...."

"Tell me! "he said with more force than was probably necessary. "I- I -I have no idea what happened. "
"If anyone had seen that "
"Er,no! that -that was, that was nothing to do with me .that-that was" the lad stuttered, panicked." I know what it was! I just want to know where you learned how to do it!"

"nowhere."

"so how is it you know magic?"

"I don't"

"where did you study?"

When the lad failed to answer, he shouted angrily, "answer me!"

"I -'ve never studied magic or, or been taught."

"Are you lying to me boy?"

"what do you want me to say? "the lad asked, tired with this argument.

"the truth!"

"I was born like this!"

"that's impossible! Who are you?"

"Oh, erm... "the lad fished around his bag for something . he pulled out a piece of paper and showed it to Gaius. "I have this letter."

"I -I don't have my glasses."

"I'm merlin."

"wait for merlin did you say?" Gaius had now completely lost his anger and was paling considerably." you know me?" merlin asked surprised "that it doesn't matter merlin you shouldn't be here, it's dangerous for you to be her, there is a reason why I took you out of Camelot "Gaius said urgently.

"you took me outside Camelot why wait you know who my parents are?" merlin asked with hope in his eyes.

What they didn't know was that prince Arthur was just on the door of the physician's chambers only for him to feel a sense of the familiar wave of magic wash over him. something that he didn't knows he was missing till then. "Gaius, my father needs...."Arthur had just stepped inside the room when he was hit with the full force of the familiarity of the magic that he had experienced outside the chambers, that was when he laid eyes on the other person occupying the room. He felt a pull towards the person and when he saw the look Gaius was giving the person. "Gaius, what is going on? who is this? why does my magic feel a pull towards him? explain now! "Arthur said."prince Arthur what are you doing here! "Gaius said paling considerably "you have magic and why is that I am feeling a pull towards him, Gaius if you know something please tell me," Merlin said with such hope that Gaius had no Choice ,but to tell the truth." your not the only child of the queen prince Arthur, your mother was blessed with twins, " Gaius told the two, "twins!"Arthur said meanwhile Merlin was filled with the hope of a family member that would hopefully accept him. "Yes, your highness, twins but as you know about your magic the younger child too had the same abilities that you have only to a much larger extent, so much that he caused the items In your room float just when your father entered." Gaius further explained but the last sentence had sent the prince into the briefest flashbacks of his life where he could make out the child hazel eyes and a tuft of raven black hair," your father saw that display and that night when I was laying down I heard the babes cry. I rushed to the nursery to see fire everywhere and your brother in the middle of it. iI couldn't call the guards as I knew that this had to be your father's doing so all I could do was grab up the child and teleport out of their " Gaius said." So the reason that you both are feeling the pull with your magic is that it's from the same source. Prince Arthur meets your younger brother Merlin ".
