i never realized
how far away you were
from me
until you were gone

they've snatched
the person you were
and turned you into
someone
they want to see

all because
you want to be remembered
by the world
where in the end
the only people
who care to remember
are the people
who no longer recognize you

       a letter to you,
            the person who society has changed
