I rummaged through my grandmothers old books, humming a soft tune she used to sing to me. It was a tragic song, she would say, about an army of elves who went idly to their deaths to defend their King. Of course, this wasn't real. Though she would swear to you that it was, and that she was there to experience it. It got worse when she started to pass away, she would scream for someone named Maxim, begging for him to come and save her. It got to the point that the doctors would have to put her under, just so she would calm down. "Why was she like that?" You might ask. Well, know one really knows. My mother claims that it was due to old age, but my father says it was from a book she read. Hints why i'm rummaging through her old books. "Taya? Taya please come down for dinner, you can't avoid the family forever...." My mothers voice sounds muffled through the attic door, but i really couldn't care. "I'll come down later mother, i'm in the middle of something!" I could hear her sigh, though she doesn't argue with me, deciding to leave me be. "Where could that book be..." I sigh, trying to remember where my grandmother told me she put it. Why did she have to hide it anyways? It was just a simple book with simple characters. "Why am i even looking for this book anyways? It can be that good...." I stand, ready do leave the attic and the book behind, but right as i stood, a melodic voice reaches my ears. The voice sounded so real. It was like someone was in the attic with me..... "Hello? Is that you mum?" The voice stopped, only to be joined by a male voice as well. It was so soothing, but also super creepy. I was drawn to it, like a moth to a flame. "Why are you doing this?" I turned to the attic door, only to find the book i had been looking for, laying in the walk way. I bent down to pick it up, rubbing my hand softly over the cover. The Vale? I've never heard of such a book.... Oh well, i've found what i was looking for. "Mum? I'm coming down now." I heard her give a short reply, moving toward the door with soft footsteps. "I guess i could read you, and see what grandma was talking about."
It was night by the time i was allowed to go to my room. The family had begged for me to talk, to say anything, but i refused. Yo see, before my grandmothers death, they HATED me. But know that i'm the sole beneficiary of both her estate and her company, they all want to be my friends. It's sick really, how they act. The only one who doesn't act like that is my older cousin Jacob. He was never in to material items, saying they were worthless to those bound to God. "I'm sorry that they act this way, they truly are vultures." I sighed, starring at my mother from under my covers. "Don't be sorry for them mother, it's not your fault...." She gave me a pity filled smile, placing her hand over my head. "I know, but i am the one that brought you in to this family..." I smiled softly and leaned up to kiss her cheek. "Goodnight mama, i'll see you in the morning." She nodded and smiled, standing from my bed. "Goodnight darling, sleep well." She made her way out from my room, closing the door behind her. I am much to tired to read tonight, so i suppose i should just lie down to sleep. Though that book calls to me, in some mysterious way. "Taya~" I gasp, looking over to the book that lay upon the desk. "Wh-what? Who said that?" I heard a soft, but deep chuckle coming from the book. "Why ask such things when you already know the answer?" A hand suddenly reached out from the book, it grasping for something to cling to. From the hand came an arm, the a head and a torso. From the way the figure was facing, i could only see it's back. "What the hell?!" I scrambled to get away, but found that i could no longer move. "Calm down, i'm not gonna hurt ya." I blushed, embarrassed by the fact that i couldn't move. The figure was now standing in front of my desk, it's back still towards me. "Turn so i can see your face, stranger." The figure chuckled again, slowly turning so i could see it's face. But what i saw was shocking.... It was the man from dreams long since past. "It's wonderful to finally see you Taya... I've missed you....."
