Chapter One

Jenni's POV

Jared was laughing the hardest with the gang as they we're on lunch break sitting from my right. I was located above them on guard, sitting on the lifeguard's chair-keeping tabs of the beach and the swimmers. So far, it was one o'clock pm, and there was only young dad playing in the shallow waters with his young daughter who was six and a few younger teens who were sun tanning. It didn't look like they were going to go into the water anytime soon. It was going to be a long quiet Saturday after all.

I adjusted my glasses on my face, and continued to hear the guy's conversation of Erik and Tyler dropping me in the water early that morning. Jared thought it was just brilliant and high fived them and Gerri, Sharron, Stephen, Dave, Nick, Jess we're laughing along. Even though it was just Erik, Tyler, Gerri and I were scheduled to work today; the rest of the gang came out to all hang out even though it was they're days off. We we're a close knit staff this season; it was more fun that way.

I smiled to myself happy that I took the job a summer ago. I didn't think being a lifeguard would be so much fun for a summer job. Sure, myself and Jess we're the youngest of the staff: but we all got along great. Most of us we're all university students so we all knew and shared similar experiences. Since it was my second season working, and most of them have worked there for many seasons previous we we're very close.

I opened my water bottle and took a sip of cool water. The Saskatchewan sun was shining and clear blue skies. A light breeze and it was just so beautiful. I just couldn't believe school was just around the corner and soon I would be back in university for my second year stuck in a classroom. Fall would be hit us with a big rock soon, it usually did. It's Canada weather for crying out loud.

I leaned back and sat more comfortably on the chair. I grabbed a few strands of my hair and felt it. It was finally dry from the eight o'clock swim thanks to Tyler and Erik. The rest of my hair was loose and down and the breeze was blowing it softly. I combed it with my fingers, in habit. Being on guard was not the most fun jobs since you we're pretty much excluded from the rest of the crowd and always had to keep tabs of the water and swimmers. But on the plus side, it was an excuse to sit under an umbrella and be covered in shade. I was in a deep trance as I was combing my hair until I heard someone call my name.

"How's the shade up there lovely?" Tyler was calling from below. I smiled as I heard my nickname, I couldn't help it. It was becoming a regular nickname from his lips in the last month.

"How's the sun down there Trouble?"-Trouble was becoming his regular nickname from me.

"We miss you down here!" he says, smiling his goofy grin.

I stuck my tongue at him. "You're still not forgiven for throwing me in the water you know." I said, twirling my long locks of black hair.

He puts his hands on his chest, giving me a "what do you mean look". "Me? I don't know what you're talking about, silly."

I found myself smiling again. "Not even." I replied back.

Tyler smiled big time. "Cha!"

I laughed, and he sat back down with the crew. He said something to all of them grabbing they're attention and they all looked up at me and all waved grinning like crazy. I grinned and waved down. Yep, it was going to be a long day indeed.
