Chapter Two

The first day of school in the middle of the year was always the hardest. Eli was impossible not to notice as he walked down the hallway trying to find the right classroom. It was eighty degrees outside and he was wearing all black. So if it wasn't his compelling good looks that made people stare him down in the hallway; it was the fact he was completely dressed in black and did not have a drip of sweat on him.

Eli noticed the people staring at him from the corner of his eye but tried not to pay attention to them, this was normal whenever he moved. He was walking to what he believed was the correct classroom and the bell rang. A few seconds later he strolled into the classroom after double checking his schedule to match the classroom numbers.

"Can I help you?" the teacher asked.

Eli glanced at her with a devilish smile as he noticed all the attention in the room focus on him. "Yes ma'am. I'm Eli Jens, new student."

"Ah okay. You're Ezra's cousin, right?"

"Yes ma'am."

"Okay well, you can sit next to him for now, and collect a textbook from the back of the classroom."

Eli nodded his head and walked to the back of the room as he was told. He could hear whispers throughout the class, mainly amongst the girls in the room. He held back his urge to laugh at the things he heard, like he always did. Being conceited wasn't in Eli's nature, but he was aware of how attractive he was found to be.

Eli glanced over to Ezra making sure the teacher wasn't looking.

"So where are these two girls you're always talking about?" Eli said.

"They should be here soon. They are always late."

Just as Ezra finished his sentence in came Addi and Brook. The teacher stopped and looked at her disappointing students and continued writing her notes on the board. They both froze when they noticed someone was sitting in Brook's seat.

"Addi please tell me you are totally creeped out by the guy sitting in my seat right now." Brook whispered.

Addi couldn't help but laugh and draw attention to them.

"Yeah, totally!" Addi said wide-eyed.

"Like serial killer creepy right?" Brook whispered even lower.

Addi laughed even harder, thus making it harder to not have the attention on them.

"Ladies please take your seats now. The rest of us who arrived on time are still trying to learn." Said the teacher.

Brook gave the teacher a dirty look. "Uh no they are not lady. Trust me no one is trying to learn anything." Ms. Hoffman ignored her, as she usually did. "Besides there happens to be someone in my seat, make him move." Brook said. Her anger issues had this way of showing themselves in the smallest, simplest situations.

While vaguely offended by Brook's comments, Ms. Hoffman was already used to Brook's sinister ways. The teachers often discussed her in their lounge room.

"Brooklyn, there is a seat on the other side, you can sit there." Ms. Hoffman said like Brook had said nothing at all.

"Well how am I supposed to talk to Addi? Tell him to move! It's my freaking seat!"

Addi, more often than not, wondered how the teachers dealt with Brook's outbursts so often. As humorous as she found Brook, she imagined that adults did not find the same humor she did.

Eli sat there patiently waiting for the teacher's response. He wasn't nervous, maybe a little tense sense he wasn't used to people with an attitude like Brook's.
