All I wanted to do was run inside, grab my shit, and go home. Unfortunately that wasn't an option, stupid justice system forcing me to put perps into a cell. Why couldn't I just leave them in the car?
... totally joking.
Despite my extreme instinct telling me to get the hell out of this situation I forced my self to stay and help Connor out. I all but fell out of the car, my feet landing unevenly on the crisp snow. I quickly straightened up and took a few deep breaths of the icy air.
'Alright Jones, it's no big deal, you just made a complete fool of yourself is all. Just... redeem yourself and then get the hell out of here.'
With a sigh I turned around to see Connor leaning comfortably on the car. "Everything alright Samantha?" He asked, a smug smile on his face. "Wonderful, now let's focus on our job hmm?" I snapped, pushing him to the side as I reached for the handle. I tugged a few times, but to no avail, "fucking car, just open you piece of shit!" I grumbled, my face beginning to heat up again. "You may need these." Connor explained, the almost haunting jingle of keys sounding behind me as I realized my mistake. "Yeah.... right." Quickly snatching the keys, and actually unlocking the car this time, I roughly reached in to grab Daniel. "Alright, you're going straight into holding. Not sure why you thought it'd be a good idea to be a dick on Christmas, but the lack of cops means you're gonna be here awhile. So props to shitty planning." I sniped, shoving him along in front of me. The second I put him into holding I bolted, the embarrassment I had subjected myself to while in the presence of Connor was enough to last me a life time. So all I wanted now was to spend some time alone.
"So how'd it go with tin can?"
I guess Gavin works too...
I flopped down into my chair and groaned, bringing my hands up to massage my temples. As I tried to calm my frazzled nerves, Gavin scoffed. "I hate to say I told you so but... well I told you so." I shot a sideways glare at that grinning idiot as he continued to blabber. "Everyone thinks I'm a dick now that "androids are free, and omg they're people too" but once you have to spend time with them it's hell." I lowered my hand and stared at Gavin, a pained look clear on my face. "Please, you saying "omg" is infinitely more painful than anything else I can imagine." As I cringed Gavin rolled his eyes. "Whatever, you know what I mean. Besides, maybe this'll teach you to stay away from that dipshit like I keep telling you."
"Wow thanks for the advice MOM, but if I wanted to hear the "racist relative" rant everyday I would've gone back to the 1800s."
" it's not racism if they aren't alive."
At this I slammed my hand on the table and leaned in so that my face was inches from his.
"Look dipshit, I understand why you're gonna be a racist shit. But don't you EVER say that again. Understand?" I hissed, my words like a thousand little daggers poised for the kill. Gavin glared up at me, our eyes locked in a battle of dominance. I knew Gavin wasn't used to backing down, but if he didn't, well I might have to get suspended again.
"JONES! Get your ass in here! Now!"
Well, from the sound of it I may get suspended for some other reason.
Not wanting to backdown just yet I glared at Gavin for awhile longer.
"JONES! Now!"
Reluctantly I broke away, striding into the Captains office as if nothing was wrong. "Sup Fowler?"
"SUP? Jones do you have ANY idea why you're here right now?" The captain roared, clearly pissed at something I'd done. "I can't say I do sir." I replied coolly. Fowler sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, I could've sworn I even saw steam coming out of his ears. "Well Jones." He began, gritting his teeth to keep from exploding. "Let's recap, you abandoned your partner for the day, leaving him with work you were both assigned. You then ran off to work a case you weren't assigned, with a partner you weren't assigned. You then put the perp into holding without helping said partner fill out any paper work, and then proceeded to fight with the partner who stayed here to do all your work."
As the Captain talked I began to get a bit fidgety, not because I was nervous, but because somewhere in my little black heart I was actually starting to feel guilt.
"So please, explain to me how any of this is appropriate workplace behavior." Fowler finished with a defeated sigh.
"Well, I had finished most of the work last night, and Connor needed help since Hank ditched him so I went with him. With the perp I..... well when I sat back down Gavin made a, rude, remark about androids so I had to put him in his place. Sir." At the end of my little explanation Fowler stared at me, then sighed. "You're lucky it's Christmas Jones, but I don't want to hear another word out of you, understand?"
"Yes sir."
"Good, now get the hell out of my office."
Knowing thar I'd probably get suspended if I heard even one word from Gavin I decided to make a dash for my desk. As I arrived I saw Gavin open his mouth. "SORRY CAN'T HEAR YOU! MUSIC'S TOO LOUD!" I blurted, jamming the earbuds into my ears and blasting some music to drown out Gavin's voice. My mood instantly lifted though as I saw the extremely annoyed expression on his face.
'Hehe, take that.'
Eventually Gavin stopped trying to get my attention, and I was finally able to save my eardrums from the blasting music. Fortunately the end of my shift arrived pretty quickly, the second I saw the clock change to 8:40 I jumped up and hurried to the locker rooms to collect my stuff. I put in the code and snagged my duffle bag full of random shit, hefting it onto my shoulder I slammed the door shut and went back to my desk to make sure nothing was missing. As I approached I could tell that Gavin was side eyeing me.
Smirking internally I grabbed my keys, before stopping behind him. Sensing my presence he spun his chair around, "what?" He snapped irritably. Without saying a word I raised my fist. Gavin eyed it suspiciously, his eyes flicking up to study mine. He glared at me, clearly not willing to give in, but it didn't take long for his resolve to shatter. Sighing heavily he raised his own fist and bumped it with mine. "You're a good guy Gavin." I slapped his shoulder affectionately before shouldering my duffle bag and heading out. "You're still an asshole!" Gavin's voice came as I was about to walk out. A large smile crossed my face as I simply raised my middle finger to the sky in response.
"I think that idiot might be growing on me."
HEY! To anyone who's still reading this thanks! I know this isn't my best chapter, but I've been SUPER busy with school and I've had terrible artists block. Excuses aside I'm sorry. I'll try to post more often but I'm not sure if that'll happen. Anyways see ya later!
