Sam's pov

I leaned back in my swivel chair and flicked my pen harshly through the air to the beat of Imagine Dragons "I'm so sorry." Through the blaring of the music I was just able to make out someone calling my name. I spun my chair around and took out one of my earbuds to see Captain Fowler standing behind my desk. I hummed in response, the captain sighed as he heard my music blaring. "Alright miss Jones, are you sure you can handle being alone tonight?" He asked, a hint of pity in his voice. I shrugged and lowered the volume of my music, "yeah, just felt like getting some work done." I replied detachedly. Captain Fowler scanned my mismatched eyes for a second before sighing. "Alright then Jones, merry Christmas Eve then." He said, dismissing himself with another pitying sigh. A few minutes after he left the lights in the building shut off, I shrugged it off, not like I really needed them anyway. I pushed the Captains words aside, I was a damn good police detective, and I was going to finish my paper work.

Even if I was alone... on Christmas Eve... in a dark precinct....

I let out a defeated groan and spun around in my chair. "Why am I even complaining? It's not like I HAVE anyone to spend Christmas Eve with." I mumbled to my self, "I made damn well sure of that." shaking my head I  got back to work. I managed to finish quite a few more files after that, while blasting through a couple of my favorite songs as well.

Finishing my work with a satisfied grin I stretched my tired muscles, hearing the popping of my joints. When I was done with that I sank back into my chair. Bored, but reluctant to go back to my even emptier apartment. Instead I decided to snoop around my partners desk. Detective Gavin Reed definitely had some interesting trinkets to play with, but I had seen them all before. After all when you work with someone for 2 years you become pretty familiar with the contents of their desk. "Hmmm, who else's desk could I snoop through?" I hummed, my eyes landing on my old partner Hanks desk. Hank and I had been... okay partners, but after less than a year of working together Hank got promoted to lieutenant and I had been assigned to Gavin. I was all right with that, we had started to get a little too close, and my personal life was NOT something I liked to share with people. Shaking these thoughts out of my head I strolled over to his desk and looked through the items with interest. "All right old man, you better have snacks in these drawers of yours." I grinned, rifling through to no avail. "Damn, who would've thought that Hank would be the only drunk that never gets the munchies. Ah well." I sighed, my eyes drifting over to the desk beside Hanks. "Now the android... well Connor might be interesting." I thought aloud. However at the thought of androids my mind quickly drifted to the revolution that happened only a little while ago. Connor had been apart of that, having broken into the Cyber Life  assembly plant and converted hundreds of androids into deviancy. I had to admit, that took guts. Gavin wasn't all too fond of Connor but he seemed... interesting to me. Although that didn't mean I'd be getting all buddy buddy with him any time soon.

The streets had taught me better than that.

As the events of the revolution flashed through my mind one moment stood out to me. When the leader, Markus, and all the other deviants began to sing that song. It... it was mesmerizing. Just hearing it on the news filled me with so much... emotion.

And as someone who was usually dead inside that was definitely a big deal to me.

Instantly knowing how to cure my boredom I went back to my desk, dropping myself in my chair and quickly searching up the song. I pulled up the video taken by the news reporter and looked around the dark precinct. "Hello?" I called out gruffly, hoping I'd sound like the usual intimidating persona I put on. No one answered, confirming that I was alone. Hesitantly I turned back to my screen and pressed play. "Hold on, just a little while longer.." as the deviant leader's voice filled the air I couldn't help but begin to sing along. "Hold on, just a little while longer." I echoed, feeling as if I had been put under a spell. "Everything will be alright." I copied. "Everything will be alright."
"Fight on, just a little while longer." As The deviant I recognized as North stepped forward I couldn't help the chills that ran up my arm. She was beautiful, and her singing matched her perfectly. It was hard to not be attracted to such a powerful woman. I shook my head and paid attention to the music. "Fight on, just a little while longer, everything will be alright, everything will be alright." I closed my eyes, allowing the song to just wash over me as I sang along. "Sing on, just a little while longer, sing on just a little while longer. Sing on just a little while longer, everything will be alright, everything will be, alright." When the song ended and the harmony of voices fell away I couldn't help but feel at peace.

Unfortunately that lasted for .2 seconds.

"That was very wonderful singing miss Jones." Came a voice from behind me. "AAAH SHIT!" I yelled. I was so startled that in getting up I ended up crashing to the ground, slamming my elbow hard against the tiles. Hearing the footsteps of the man behind me I ripped out the headphones that connected me to my computer and quickly grabbed my gun. Without another moments hesitation, I spun around on my knee and aimed my gun at... fuck it's Connor. "Holy hell you scared the shit out of me!" I growled, my heart still violently pounding as I slipped my gun back into its holster. "My apologies miss Jones, I did not mean to startle you." Connor replied as he held out a hand for me to take. I eyed him suspiciously before accepting his help.

Connors pov

I analyzed the detective standing before me, her figure a silhouette illuminated by the computer light behind her. As my analysis finished I concluded that her heart rate was indeed elevated, her stress level was 78% and she had hurt her elbow in the fall. "Is your elbow alright detective?" I asked once my analysis had finished. "Oh, yeah it'll be fine. But first, how much of that did you hear?" She demanded, her anxiety rising by another 2%. "I heard... enough." I said thoughtfully.

Sam's pov

'SHIT HOW DID I NOT KNOW HE WAS HERE??!' I mentally screamed, completely embarrassed that he had even heard me. "Connor if you ever breath a word of this to ANYONE it will end very badly for you do you understand?" I growled, trying to sound intimidating. Unfortunately my voice betrayed me and it cracked halfway through the sentence. "Of course miss Jones, although I must admit I do not understand why you wish for this to be a secret." He admitted, his tone made it sound almost like a question. I opened my mouth to try and explain myself but the words weren't there. 'What am I doing? One slip up and I'm already about to spill my guts to this guy? No way, I need to redeem myself, and quickly.' I thought, putting my defenses back up and adopting my normal harsh tone. "Anyways what are you doing here?" I asked. A blueish tint seemed to cross his cheeks as he stared at me thoughtfully. "Well, I don't exactly have a place to live, I was hoping to get some work on a deviant case I have been assigned, finished; but I require Hanks assistance and he's..."
"Having a merry little Christmas without you?" I finished, my tone a little harsher than I had intended. Connor simply nodded and a feeling of sympathy shot through me. 'Damnit I can't believe I'm doing this.'
"Can you keep you mouth shut?" I asked with a sigh. Connor's brown eyes fixed on mine, his face seemed confused. "I don't understand?"
"If I offered to let you come over to my place would you mention it to anyone?" I clarified, realizing that I was being a bit more hostile than necessary. A faint smile seemed to flash across Connors face as he realized what I was saying "I would respect your privacy." He responded. I eyed him suspiciously for a few moments before finally giving in. "All right then, lets go." I caved, taking my leather jacket off the back of my chair and pressing the power button on my monitor. I walked out of the building with Connor following close behind. "Detective I must admit that I am surprised that you would offer something like this to me." Connor admitted as we walked through the cold street in the direction of the parking lot. "And why's that?" I hummed, arching an eyebrow at him. "Well I was under the impression that you disliked me." He stated matter of factly. I gave him an amused smile, "everyone thinks that about me, it's better that way..." I trailed off.

'Wow good job Sam, way to get all depressing.'

"I don't dislike you though Connor." I said quietly, slowing my pace so I could glance up and see his reaction. Connor stared ahead but I could see him smiling softly, it made me feel... weird. Good almost. 'What the hell is this?' I thought in confusion. Trying to cover up my strange feelings, I spoke again. "Although don't think that means we're gonna Netflix and chill, I just didn't want to see someone alone on Christmas Eve." I added defensively. "I appreciate your concern... however I am unfamiliar with the term "Netflix and chill" can you explain?" He asked, his LED whirring as he tried to process my meaning. A blush crossed my face and I looked away quickly in an attempt to hide it. "I'll tell you when you're older." I replied. Stopping when I saw what we had been walking to. "Say Connor, you ever ridden a bike before?"
