"When I have a nightmare I like to turn on my night light and remind myself that it was only a dream and the monsters can't hurt me for real.", He told you.
You couldn't help but smile at him. Webber was just so precious and only wanted to help people. Even if he didn't really know how to he would reach for anything to make a person feel happier.
Your smile made Webber smile back, "I guess I did well here! I better get some sleep so I have the energy for tomorrow. Good night (name)!"
He gave you a big hug and ran back out to the night from which he came.
Wes
He stepped in, he was wearing an oversized coat for some reason. He made an exaggerated scared face and fainted. You stared at him, at the very least he hushed your crying for a moment. After a bit of just laying there, he sat back up and looked around confusedly. Oh, maybe he thought that you were being attacked or something? Wes' eyes finally landed on you and he had a quizzical expression about his features.
You filled him in, "I had a dream where the shadows killed... Or took my friends' soul? Either way, it looked painful... And so real... I just.", You sobbed again.
Wes frowned for a split second but then he smiled again. He held up one finger, asking you to give him a second. He made a bunch of hand gestures while a mystified look was on his face. You watched him for a while, wondering where this was going. Then he reached into his coat and pulled out a wrapped box and gave it to you.
After that Wes made an invisible wall gesture as he took singular steps each time it repeated until he was out of your tent.
You pulled the wrapping paper off and it was a box of tea. Huh? It was chamomile... Maybe the idea behind it was that tea is comforting? Who knows...
Wait.... Where did he get it and why was it in his coat? Why was he even wearing a coat?
Some questions remain unanswered.
Wigfrid
She stepped right in and stabbed her spear in the ground, "Who dares to trouble my comrade in arms, (name)?"
Confusion settled in when she saw that it was only you there under your covers crying. She felt like she didn't need to ask to understand the situation. That she could trust that this was exactly what it looked like. However to make sure she would question you anyway. It wouldn't be right if she didn't make sure.
"Where's the threat!?", She asked.
"I-I had a nightmare that-", All at once you were pulled to your feet by the warrior in front of you.
"Well, that's no good! You need to scare off all the negativity with a little exercise!", She said.
"But Wigfrid! I-", There was no finishing your thoughts now. She shoved her lantern and spear in your hands.
She proceeded to take a backup lantern out of the backpack she was carrying then she yelled, "We must run with the dawn of this new day comrade in arms!", She looked at you for a second then she followed up with, "What are you doing just standing there!? Go go go go!"
She ushered you out of your tent and both of you took off running. You don't know how she convinced you to get up and run.... But she did! At least you weren't crying anymore.
WX-78
He stepped in. All at once you stopped crying.
"Oh no.... No no no! You're not going to be the one to 'help' me right now.", You said.
"WHAT!? WHY NOT? HUMANS... SO EMOTIONAL. CAN'T TELL WHEN FEELINGS SHOULD BE IGNORED."
"Leave.", You said.
His cold dead eyes stared through you for a second then he walked away. Probably because it was cut and dry for him when you assured him you wanted him to go. For once you were grateful for that.
Wickerbottom
She never slept so it was no surprise that she had heard and was quick to respond and poke her head in. She stepped in and adjusted her glasses before she began with the obvious.
"What happened here, dear?"
"I had a dream that my close friends were suffocated to death by the shadows! I could feel and smell things like it was real too... I-I thought it was actually happening... It was... A lot...", You finished it in a quiet voice.
The old woman seemed to process what you said for a while before trying to help, "Well, you are awake and safe now right? No realistic nightmare can offend you any longer. I would suggest taking a moment to breathe. Come out and have a warm drink and walk around until you feel tired again.", She bowed her head respectfully, "Feel better tonight.", She told you then left.
You know what? Maybe you would do all those things.
Maxwell
"What's all the noise in here?", He asked stepping in.
Oh no.... You were crying. Maxwell absolutely hated crying. It was loud, messy, and gross. He didn't really feel all that bad for it when it happened. He concealed that fact though because he needed the one crying to buy that he was genuine in comforting them. It wasn't like he was uncomfortable lying. Why should that change for this...?
You answered him, "I had a nightmare that the shadows suffocated my friend to death.", You cried harder.
Oh... He knew exactly what you were talking about as well as the cause, "Oh... Hey look, pal. Sometimes the shadows of this realm infect your dreams until they feel like they're happening for real. If you would like to keep them at bay you can keep a lamp in here. That way they can't do it again."
At that, he left you to think about that little note.
If that was the way you had to fight off ever having one of those types of dreams again... Then you will. Not even having to get the supplies yourself will stop you.
Geez you guys.... Another chapter is finally up after months on end... I am so sorry. I just have put this story on the back burner because my interest lies within other fandoms now.
I will try to be more regular with this one now since I think I'm starting to drift back into this fandom again XD
Hope you enjoyed your chapter StarryOfThy
