Chapter Three: Being Difficult

The rest of the summer passed quickly, spent hopping back and forth between home and the Weasleys'. This is how basically every one of my summers had gone for almost as long as I could remember. I loved the Weasleys, and I loved staying with them for a few days at a time, but sometimes it was better to be home in the quiet serenity rather than at the Burrow with the hustle and bustle and constant social interaction. I liked people and I loved my friends, but quiet was good, too.

Home was also good.

Uncle Arthur had a hard time waking me up the morning of the first day of September. I'd been in denial all week that summer was coming to an end, but the time had come at last for me to go back to school.

It sucked. Royally.

And so I made it difficult. Thirty minutes after Ginny’s and my first wake-up call, Uncle Arthur was back to wrestle me up.

"Wake up, Nora. You're going to be late if you don’t get up soon," said Uncle Arthur’s voice with the opening of a door.

"Go away," I groaned and rolled over away from him.

"Nora, everyone else is awake, and it’s past ten o’clock.”

"Your point being?" I grumbled.

"There’s forty-five before the train leaves, and you’ll make everyone late."

“Don’t know why you guys are waiting for me. I’m perfectly happy here in this bed. You guys go on.”

“You need to come too, Nora.”

"Can't I just, like, not?"

"That isn't an option."

"Shhh, it's always an option."

"Nora."

"I don't wanna go! Gilderoy Lockhart's gonna be there, and he's a douchebag."

"Watch your mouth."

"Hush, I'm half delirious, I don't know what I'm saying."

"You know perfectly well what you're saying."

"You don't know that. You can't read my mind."

"Nora, you're acting like a child."

"I am a child!"

"You're nearly an adult."

"I still have three and a half wonderful years ahead of me before adulthood."

"You have five minutes to be out of bed before I send Fred and George in.”

“Go right ahead, Uncle Arthur.”

I heard him sigh and shut the door. For five blissful minutes, the room was silent again and I was able to fall back into the clutches of sleep.

Unfortunately, at the end of those five minutes, my door flew open again and hurricanes Fred and George came in, way too loud and cheerful to be appropriate.

Good morning, good moring!” they sang. “We’ve danced the whole night through. Good morning, good morning, to you!

“Good morning to you, too,” I said, not opening my eyes, “now leave.”

“Can’t,” said Fred.

“Mum’s orders,” said George.

“Well you can tell your mum - “

“Tell their mum what, exactly?” said the new voice of Aunt Molly.

“That I’m not going to school,” I replied.
