I enter the hallway, and something hard and small engulfs me. The breath is knocked out of me and I have to hold onto the body that attacked me so I wouldn't fall down on my ass.

I hear Cody's muffled laughter from somewhere behind me. A mist of something close to peaches surrounds me. It's a nostalgic smell.

The way the person is holding onto me, as if life will wither without the hold brings tears to my eyes, even as I can't help laughing.

"Cara, Cara," I mumble and her grip tightens. "Come on, I'll die of suffocation."

"You bitch, you're here," she breathes into my ear and I pull back, slapping her head, mock offended.

"Rude. Always rude."

She looks up at the ceiling as she bites her lip, her pale grey eyes covered with purposefully smudged eyeliner. Then she looks back at me, smile sad. "I'm sorry about your aunt."

I nod in gratitude and pull her in for another hug. "I missed you. All of you."

"I know." She lets go and puts her hand across my shoulders. "Come on. Steph already told me your schedule. We have the same." She looks back at Cody and grins. "See ya, loser."

"Fuck you too, Barbara," Cody calls out as we walk ahead.
