The girl headed toward her ticket to freedom. All she had to do was march up those stairs, rip the diploma out of the principal's hand, perhaps flip off the crowd as they all captured her profanity on cameras, and run off the stage and out the gymnasium doors. As the girl grasped the diploma the principal brought her in for a hug, whispering in her ear, "Soon."

The girl took a step back with confusion on her face, "What?" But the principal just smiled as if telling her congratulations, patting her on the back, and looking toward the next person coming up the steps. The girl took a couple of confused steps before shaking off the word of foreboding, and fast walking off the stage. She didn't even go back toward the section her classmates were sitting but rushed past, towards the door leading to her freedom. She pushed through the double doors, meeting gray clouds and a crisp breeze. She loved it. Something about the sun always disturbed her, but the dark, embraced her as if welcoming her. She took a few deep breaths, and continued on as a few gasps and a few chuckles acknowledged her escape.

As she headed toward her car she felt the first sprinkles of rain starting, and lifted her face to them. She took a slow spin, with her arms outstretched, welcoming the rain that would cleanse her of the person she has been until now.

*Beep, beep, beep

She sat up turning off the alarm, waking from the dream that had been recounting her graduation, "Shit."

She flopped back down, pulling the blanket over head, and trying to return to those few moments of freedom captured in her memories; Before facing the reality of the imprisonment, known as school, for four more years.

*knock, knock

As her mother literally says, "Knock, knock. Time to go. We need to make it to your school at the designated time. They have a whole schedule for you to go through."

"Ugh."
