Shego should not be doing this. For one, meeting up with a highly dangerous shadow wielding assassin in the dead of night was never a good idea. For another, Jade wasn't easy to please. She had worked with the girl before, back when her and Sellece were dating. Back then, their little family seemed invincible. Like they could take on the world. Which, in theory, they were quite capable of doing. Jade, known as Nightsong to her friends, was the only one who had expected Sellece's betrayal. Shego had been blinded by the possibility of forever, the others by unwavering loyalty. Nightsong  had been an outcast from the moment she was born. A child of Chaos and light, she was a danger to the balance everyone tried to keep between good and evil. She had expected betrayal from everyone she met, and unfortunately gotten it. But if there was anyone who could hold their own against Sellece, who's brutality and love of fighting matched hers, it was Nightsong. And Shego needed someone with that exact mindset to protect her  family. That's how she ended up here, in Jc's, sipping a drink.

Jc's was the kind of place where anything could happen. It was owned by Perry, loyal fallen angel to the protection squad after they saved his son, and a dealer in some, shal we say, not so legal  goods. Peace was good for profit, and Jc's was neutral territory, mainly because heros and villains alike were scared to death of Danny, Perry's servant. No one knew exactly what Danny was and most were perfectly fine just guessing. That, and most of Perry's staff had abilities of their own. Danny was currently on Perry's lap, playing a game on his tablet. Though his eyes never left the screen he noticed everything. Perry was sitting at the bar, stroking Danny's hair while he discussed business with a friend of his. "Diana, old friend. What a pleasant surprise." Shego turned. She was dreading this conversation. Jade's eyes seemed to brighten with amusement. "It has been  quite a while, hasn't it Di?"
The shadows in the room gravitated towards her, much like they did little Theodore, caressing her lovingly. Shego sometimes wondered what would have become of Jade if someone had given her a chance. Would she have grown up happy and somewhat sane, like Theo? Or would she still be here, striking fear in the hearts of the rest of Perry's customers? Even Perry looked away from those haunting eyes.
"Jade, it really is good to see you again."
shego hated politics, but here she would play nice. She had no choice. If she knew Sellece, she would make her next move soon. and for once, Shego was really concerned about how this game would turn out. "How have you been?" Jade took a seat across from her, a dagger twirling between 2 fingers. The blade was made of shadows and a hint of light, and would leave no mark if it struck a blow. One of the reasons the cops found it  hard to link her to any murders. Jade was hardly ever seen without one in her hand, twirling them was a nervous habit she was helpless to stop, years of running had taught her to incapacitate first and ask questions later. "Life has treated me well since the incident." Jade replied honestly. "What about you,  Shego? HOw's the family?"
"The boys? I only talk to the twins."
"And your sister? How is she?"
It wasn't that much of a surprise Jade knew about Cassie. But what else did she know? The playing field had shifted slightly. They could since it, especially Perry, who's eyes had shifted to look at them. Danny was watching now, one eye on his game and the other on the girls. "We should go talk somewhere less public." Jade mouthed to her. She paid for their drinks. Shego followed her outside, grateful she wasn't alone. If things went south, little Theodore was at her side, silent and unseen. Though  some of Jade's powers  vastly out numbered the boy's, Theo refused to let  her go alone. She hated putting him in harms way but she had tried telling him know. He just had to point out the simple fact she would never notice if he was there or not. Spoiled little brat.
"So, Diana, why have you come looking for me? I trus this isn't a social call?"
"Sellece. She has threatened my family."
"What did you expect, fire princess? That she'd just forgive and forget?  You tore her heart into pieces when you walked away from the destruction we left in Vengria. And our former leader wasn't so forgiving."
She could barely force the next few words without it coming out as a snarl. "I need your help, Jade. Please."
Theodore tensed beside her. Unlike his sister, he could since the shadows tense around Nightsong. He readied himself, grinning at the thought of a fight he would most certainly enjoy. "What's in it for me, Di? If I babysit your little family?"
Shego's eyes flicked to Theodore, but her brother was all ready in front of her, smiling that creepy, adorable grin. "Hi, Nightsong." He said happily.
"Awww, you brought a friend. Is he yours? He's kind of cute. Hello, Theodore, darling."
Theodore launched himself at her, and blurry shapes gathered around them as they prepared to use their abilities. "Believe me, Di. I really want to help you, I do. But someone really really wants to see you. and you have no idea how long it took me  to convince her to let me go." Jade's fingers twirled in the air, forming a net of spirit around Theodore. The helpless boy flew across the sidewalk, crashing through Jc's front window. Perry was not going to be happy about that. Shego and Nightsong circled each other. "Come on, Jade. We can end this. You and I."
"I'm sorry, Diana." Jade's eyes filled with Sadness for a second before an arrow flew from the roof of Jc's. Shego's eyes filled with surprise. Jade hadn't expected it to be so easy. But Diana was dddistracted. Her mind hadn't been in the fight, Jade knew for certain it had been on her family. Theodore cried out when he saw his sister. He had broken free of the net and was in front of her in about 2 seconds. Jade picked up Diana. The boy stopped. "I'm sorry, kiddo.  I really am."
"Your lying!!!!!" The kid's eyes were filled with tears. She bent down to him. Her eyes  softened as she gazed at this sweet child, a child who reminded her so much of Taika. Taika, who lay in a room of darkness, his every day filled with pain and fear, not knowing if he was going to live or die, all his hopes hanging on what she did here.  "Listen to me, Theodore. I have a son, a son who looks like you. Run home, Theodore. Run as fast as you can, kid. The shadows will protect you. They see you are worthy. Stick to the shadows where you are untraceable and unseen. Don't stop until you get in the safety of the wards. Tell Cassie I am so, so sorry. Tell her I've got Diana, I mean, Shego. That there is this bad person named Sellece who wants to hurt her sister and so much worse. Tell her her sister is alive and I will do my very best to keep it that way." She spoke calmly, though with a trace of urgency Theodore found terrifying. "But...but." "Shh." Her heart was breaking for him. She took his hand in hers, shoving a piece of paper in his shaking fingers. Theodore's eyes grew calm and he stopped his crying. He straightened and nodded. "I won't let you down. You or Shego or Taika."
He knew about her son? Jade had no time to ask how. "Godspeed to you, brother." She said softly, for she knew what it was like to have to earn your place in a world where you didn't belong and to have to fight tooth and nail to keep it. He saluted her solemnly, the protection squad's salute. She smiled sadly. If only he knew she knew way more about his family then she let on. Then, he was gone. "Be safe, Theo." She whispered, before rising to her feet in one motion. Holding Diana, she vanished into the night.
