Murphy
I couldn’t believe it, Rach said yes. I don’t know, maybe I had my doubts about if she would say yes or not but to hear that one word come out of her mouth, I could have died a happy man right then and there. I didn’t care what she said afterwards, if Connor and I left for Ireland again after this, she was coming with us, her and Alectra. I smiled as I stood back up and took out the ring that Connor and I had gone out to buy when we left her alone here with Romeo earlier. “So this is why you two left earlier,” she said smiling as I slipped the ring onto her left ring finger. “Guilty,” Connor said smiling as he sat a happy Alectra on the floor and she came running over to us.
I picked her up and held her in my arms as I walked closer to Rachel and kissed her. Alectra started giggling as Rachel pulled away and took her from my arms. “Back to bed you,” she said placing her on the floor and pushing her towards her room. “But Mommy,” she said digging her heels in. “No buts,” she said smiling, “you have school in the morning young lady.” “Fine,” she grumbled as she finally walked into her room without being pushed. Rachel was still standing by the hall that leads to the bedrooms with her hands on her hips when I walked up behind her wrapping my arms around her waist and resting my head on her shoulder. “Ya know that if Connor and I leave and head back to Ireland that means ya coming with us this time,” I whispered into her ear as she smiled over at me. “I know Murph,” she said smiling back at me as she kissed me.
“We’ll just give ya some privacy now,” Connor said as he and Romeo stood up from the couch and walked towards the door. Romeo walked out first but Connor stopped and turned around, smiling at us. “What,” I asked as his grin grew larger. “Ya need any rope,” he asked with a massive grin on his face. “Get the hell outta here Connor,” Rachel shouted as she grabbed a pillow from the couch and chucked it at the door as he quickly closed it. I started laughing as I wrapped my arms back around her waist, pulling her closer to me. “Seriously,” she said laughing, “what’s his damn deal with the rope?” “I have no idea,” I said as I pulled her in for a kiss.
I woke up the next morning, alone in her bed as the sun was coming through the window. “Good morning sleepy head,” she said smiling as she walked back into the room with two cups of coffee and in nothing but my shirt. “It is now,” I said smiling up at her as she sat down and handed me one of the mugs of coffee, “where’s Alectra?” “Already gone to school,” she said smiling, “all she could talk about was, and I quote ‘Mommy and Daddy are getting married’.” I laughed as she leaned forward, planting a kiss lightly on my lips only to have me deepen it as I placed my free hand on the back of her head, holding her there for a little longer.
After a few more moments, I finally allowed her to pull away. Can’t say I didn’t earn a smile from her as she sat back up. “Come on Murphy,” she said standing up, “your brother and Romeo are waiting on us downstairs in the bar.” “Awe do I have to get up,” I whined, “I wanna stay in bed and play house.” I sent her a wink too just to clarify my message as she started giggling. “Yes you have to,” she said laughing as she threw me my jeans and a shirt, “now get up.” “Only if ya come here and help me,” I said smiling at her as she just giggled again. She sat there debating it before finally walking over and taking my hands, pulling me up out of bed only to have me pull her back down.
“Murphy MacManus,” she shrieked as I wrapped my arms around her, keeping her right there, “they’re waiting!” “They can wait a little longer,” I said smiling as I pulled her face to me and kissed her. Her protests grew silent the longer we kissed. Let ‘em wait, I thought to myself as I pulled Rachel even closer in my arms, our coffee left to grow cold as we both climbed back into the bed. I hadn’t seen my girl in eight years, Connor could understand and Romeo could get over the wait. Right now it was just me and Rach, together again and never to be separated, ever.
