Nathan

We rushed Kat to the hospital with Michael's car. She was groaning in pain and agony. Michael stepped on it and in about five minutes we were at the hospital. We left Ann with one the receptionist.

Kat was admitted and taken straight into the delivery room. Michael and I went to wash our hands then were given clothes to wear before entering the room.

I was sure to bring the video cam to capture the moment.

"She's in critical condition right now and the baby is at risk. You should have brought her earlier. We are doing all we can though.". The doctor announced.

Michael and I exchanged glances. He was just as frightened as I was. We hurried into the room. Michael rushed to his wife's side and took her hands saying encouraging words to soothe her.

The gynaecologist was turning the baby in a clockwise direction. Then he spoke. "On the count of three you push ok." Kat nodded amidst the tears that were streaming down her face.

"One two three." Kat began pushing like her life depended on it. She cried even harder then stopped, saying she couldnt do it. Mike kissed her temple and urged her on. The process began again and she pushed harder.

She went red and collapsed into the bed. "Kat! Kat! Wake up. Please do this for our baby! Kat." Mike pleaded.

Nurses and doctors were moving around erraticaly trying to bring the situation under control. We were asked to move out while they tried to ensure that they didnt loose the baby or the mother.

We stood outside the room peering through the glass until a nurse walked to the glass and pulled the curtain down.

I rushed to the reception to get Ann. Mike was sitting in a bench with his face in his palm. I think he was crying.

"Daddy!" Ann called as I handed her over to her father.

"Will mummy be alright?"

"Of course hun. And so will your little brother ok."

"Promise?" she said in her tiny angelic voice. Her father looked at her with tears in his eyes before talking. "I promise." She put her head on her father's shoulder as he stroked her back.

Michael spoke to me in German about how it was his fault that he didnt bring Kat here when she asked him to. He was busy with pack matters that he pushed the baby and Kat to evening when he was done with work.

Michael's mother was a German so he knew how to speak the language. My father had some Germand blood so he taught Kat and I. I could understand perfectly but couldnt fully express myself in German.

We spoke in German because we didnt want smart little Ann understanding our conversation.

We waited for close to thirty minutes before the doctor finally came out. Mike handed me sleeping Ann while he went to talk to the gynaecologist.

He returned few minutes after with tears in his eyes and a gloomy look. "We lost the baby." He announced sadly. I placed my free hand on his shoulder and gave it a little squeeze.

"But how is Kat?"

"Her condition's been stabilized."

"Can we go see her?"

"Shes asleep but sure."

We opened the door as silently as possible and entered the room. Mike walked over to Kat and placed a kiss on her temple.

It was rather unfortunate that my sister lost her baby. My heart went out to her.

Four days later....

I sat in my sofa back at home sipping coconut juice from a glass. The pack sent their condolences to Kat when I gave them the bad news.

I had returned home the previous day to find things in order.

A Trustworthy Beta.

There was one matter that I could no longer kick out of my mind. I had tried on many occasions but this time my mind refused.

Muriel.

I thought about her and how I had treated her. It had been five days now since I had heard from her. My sister had adviced me and I knew no better than to take her advice.

I took out my phone and called Jarvis. He picked up surprisingly and apologised for the way he spoke to me before I could say anything. I did same and I asked him to come back then went on to ask for Muriel's number.

He gave it to me and I called her. She was surprised but didnt hung up this time. I asked her to meet me somewhere the next day which she agreed to.

I went to my room to take a nap before waking up to finish business. It was almost three when I woke up.

I moved to my office and began working. I received a call while working from an unknown person.

"Prepare yourself for anything Cross. I called to warn you. It would soon come and you could be taken off guard." The line went dead after.

I looked at the telephone before dropping it and wondered who the anonymous person could be. What did the person mean by it would come soon ?

I sat there pondering when Robert entered my office. I told him about the warning and after several guesses we concluded that the person might have meant an attack from another pack and speaking of pack, there was only one in mind.

Alpha Alfred's pack.

We took it as that and began putting measures in place for any attack. The safety of the pack was at risk and as an Alpha, as my dad always said, "The pack comes first."

Short but I hope you liked it. Please Comment and Vote so that I know what you think of it. :-)
