Mathematical Confusion

It was during dinner sometime close to when the summer ended a few weeks ago when we had a conversation about math. It has started when my father asked my siblings whether they had learned the math they needed to learn. They had said no. I had prepared for Geometry Honors this year since I'm a year ahead in math thanks to taking the accelerated path. But I was an average accelerated student compared to the little geniuses who had been in Algebra 1 Honors in their 6th and 7th grade year. They're in my math class since it's 0 period and they have to go back to the intermediate school before the rest of their classes. Anyways, then my Mom decided to do some math.

She started explaining to my siblings why they had to learn their math. I slowly stopped listening to the conversation but then I hear everyone else just suddenly burst into loud, loud laughter. I look up from my soup and everyone is tomato red and still laughing their heads off. It took 6 minutes to calm everyone down enough to tell me the story of what happened. Mom had said and I quote,

"3 is between 4 and 5." -Mom, sometime near the end of summer in 2018.

It took me a few minutes to process everything because I'm the type of person who is smart and understands things, they just need a few moments to catch up their really over analytical brain. Then I realize what she said and I lost it too. Both of my parents said that took a little too long for an Honors math student to comprehend, but I used the excuse of being focused on eating my food. It was one of my favorite soups after all. I can't just give it half of the attention it deserves. Or maybe that's my weird logic coming in to play. But anyways. We still laugh about that incident to this day. It's now one of our funniest references. I swear, with all of the random stuff that happens my family could be the stars of one of those reality tv shows.
