Matty walked through the door, looking over at Ellie who laid on the couch, with eyes closed as her dreams surrounded her mind. He took his jacket off, setting it down and pulling out a cigarette from the pockets. Ellie's eyes opened slightly, before he came into view.

"You know, you don't have to go back, if you don't want to." He said with the cig between his lips as he lit it.

Ellie nodded, closing her eyes once again. "You mean I can stay with you?" She asked, her voice tired and hoarse.

"If you don't want to deal with your parents and all..." he said, making his way over to her and sitting down where he best fit beside her. She turned around to face him, puckering her lips. He exhaled the smoke from his mouth and pressed his lips against her's softly.

She smiled against them, stroking his cheek gently.

"I'll probably try to go back home...talk to them...and hope they don't hate me too much to listen." She said as he pulled away, taking another drag from the stick.

He nodded, looking off into space. Everything felt surreal. As if they had just been part of a war, died, and come back. He couldn't help but wonder how, how they've made it so far...through all the tribulations they'd faced.

"They will." He encouraged, looking at her once again.

She sat up slightly, running her hands through her hair, exaggerating its length as her fingers soon ran through the air. Matty laughed slightly as he saw, she chuckled before a great sigh, "what makes you so sure?"

"They're your parents." He said, leaning in close and leaving a trail of soft smooches along her neck.

She tilted her head aside, allowing him easier access to her neck..still caught up in doubt, "you don't understand, they want everyone to think they're perfect...and that they have a perfect family. They compare me and Alex, mostly me...to my uncle's kids and it just makes it so much harder to communicate with them, because his kids are perfect." She shrugged slightly.

"Who cares? They'll have to talk to you either way--" Cut short by the doorbell's ring Matty got onto his feet, taking one last long puff before looking through the peephole.

Ellie watched him, waiting as she was sure it was Alex again. She rolled her eyes and fixed her blouse, as it was twisted from her terrible positions of sleep.

"Matty who is it?" Ellie asked, getting up.

He put out his cigarette as it rang once more, looking over at her in pure angst.

"Well?" She asked.

"It's the damn police." He said, holding his breath slightly.

"What?" He had to be kidding, she knew he was trying to give her a scare. Alex had already said they had no proof.

There was a sudden knock on the door as a male voice spoke from the other side, "we know you're in there, we just want to talk to you. If you don't come out, we'll have to force our way in. If you don't come out, we'll suspect you're guilty."

Ellie sighed heavily, her stomach twisting and her heart burning from its speed. "Matty just open the door." Ellie whispered.

"No, they don't have the right to just come in--"

The voice spoke again. "We've taken the information from your license plate of your vehicle down."

With everything in him Matty opened the door at last.

"We're gonna need you to come with us," one policeman spoke, peeking into the house and seeing Ellie, "oh good she's here," he turned around to the other, "and her as well."

"Why?" Matty asked, his heart too racing, yet holding his composure well.

"Hey, we ask the questions here." The officer said sternly.

"I just want to fucking know why--"

"Matty just listen to him." Ellie said nervously, her hands shaking, and beads of nervous sweat forming at her forehead.

"Don't force us to treat you like criminals and put you in hand cuffs, alright? You're just coming with us, answering a few questions in regarding the local shop robbery a few weeks ago, and then you may or may not go. That depends upon you." The second officer said, more calm than the other.

"But why us?" Matty continued to question.

"Matty..." Ellie whispered..she knew how the police in their city treated people they wanted to mess with. They weren't afraid to pull out their tasers and batons on those who refused to submit and comply.

Matty looked back at Ellie, she handed him his jacket. He took it from her as he made his exit with Ellie close behind after locking up.

She couldn't help but think the worst as they climbed into the back seats of the police car, her only time in one being when she'd got caught shoplifting, following another's lead in year nine. She looked through the gate which was the barrier between them and the police...feeling almost like an animal.

Matty looked over at her as each man shut their doors for them. In Ellie's mind she rehearsed exactly what she'd say. I have no idea, I really dunno...I was at a friend's house that day...

Matty looked over at her, seeing nervousness upon her worried face. He reached over and took her hand in his, gently. She looked down at it, as it gave her a full reassurance that everything would be okay.
