    "Isn't he just beautiful?"
I ask, awing him.

"Just look like a sack of potatoes to me."
Glaring at him, I focus my attention back on my beautiful son.

"You're not going to be an idiot like your father here. You're going to be smart, like me. I'm going to love and raise you. You're just the most gorgeous thing I've laid my eyes on. I love you so much."

"Whatever. This so called idiot got you that creature your holding. Look who's the idiot now."

Rolling my eyes, I remark.

"Still the idiot. Who kept him and went through hours of labor you dumbass?"
Finally silence until I hear him mumble under his breath.

"Didn't nobody ask you to do allat shit."

Ignoring him, I stare into his precious eyes. My baby's gonna look just like me. Only thing he's gonna inherit from his father is his last name.

*skips until he's 2 1/2 year old*

"What is it now woman? I know you're thinking about something."
Why I kept Christopher's father around for this long, I don't know.

    "I don't know. He's almost three."

     "Your point?"

"He's almost three and he still hasn't caught on to things and he hasn't been able to fully talk yet..."

"You expect a 2 year old to talk like we do."

"No. I'm just saying that most kids this age have at least said a few things: no, yes, Mama, Dada, mine. Something like that. Only he hasn't."

"You think something's wrong with him?"

         "Like I said, I don't know."

"Look, he might need a lil more time."

"I guess you're right. Only, I want to check with a professional."

"You wanna spend my hard earned money on some doctor that gon tell you what my Mama could've told you? Oh no you won't."

"Well, you don't have a say so in this."

"Hell, my money has a say so in this!

"If there's a chance he's retarted, we ain't keeping him."

"He isn't some pet we could return just because he pees in the house. IF he is slow, then we could help him."

"All I hear is money, money, money. It's either him or me. Let me remind you that when I leave, so does everything I own that I paid for including the clothes on your back."

"Fine.. I choose you."
