"...No," my words were barely audible.

My shoulders stiffened as I uncomfortably shifted foot to foot. In front of me was the man I had learned to hate, the man I now loathed. It was strange, yet so typical for things like this to happen. Like, the girl and guy meet in university, get together and then have a nasty break up months later.

Absolutely cliché.

Unfortunately, that's just what my life was. A shit load of cliché.

"Oh! Kat? Hi, what are you doing here?" he looked rather awkward holding two mugs that I had set my eyes on.

"Nothing really, just anniversary shopping for my parents. Speaking of, you gonna' get that?" I nod towards the mugs.

He looked down at what I was nodding at and smiled. "Oh yeah, these are for my dad's friends anniversary.

Don't tell me...

"Let me guess, the name's John, right?" I deadpanned.

I remember not long ago, my father mentioned his name to me but I didn't give two shits at that time.

"Yes, actually. How did you know?" Jace asked, surprised.

I tried my best not to snort at the look on his face. "Well I mean, John is known to be one of the best businessmen out there."

I suddenly heard a throat being cleared behind me, reminding me that I was here with Ameilia. "So sorry to disturb your very interesting and not at all boring conversation. But I believe we were originally here for something?"

As if on cue, my phone rang.

It was my father, no doubt calling in to see where I was and when I would reach.

I mumbled a small "Excuse me."

I heard my father speaking as soon as I accepted the call. "Where are you, Querido?" You should have been here an hour ago.

I tried not to stutter before uttering my lie. "Oh yeah, we left two hours ago, but then Ameilia was not content with her dress and so we had to go back. Then, we didn't have any gas so we are just at the gas station."

I know it was wrong to blame Ameilia for all of this, but my dad should know me enough to realize that I am actually lying.

"Hmm, okay, but just hurry we are about to start, okay?" My dad said through the loud crashing noise in the background. "Elaina and Meghan miss you, don't you Meg?" he cooed to who I suppose was Meghan that he was holding.

On the other side, I heard her babbling on. At this stage, she was now "talking". By that, I mean that she was able to communicate in her baby language. It was adorable.

"Alright, we'll be there soon. Say hi to Elaina from me," I chirp at the phone before disconnecting it.

By the time I was done, I saw Jace skipping out of the store, too happy with the thing he purchased that was in his hands.

Great, now I have to look for something new.

I resisted the urge to pout as I walked back to Amelia. Knowing my parents, they most likely have everything one can think to buy for them.

Is there any point to this?

"Okay, if you want we can just give your parents a little photo canvas with the entire family there," Amelia suggested.

Sweet and simple, I liked it.

"It's a good idea," I said pulling out my phone to find a family picture.

I scrolled down to the five pictures I had in my 'Photos' and all of them were with my family. I wasn't the type of person to have over a hundred screenshots of my friends or anything. I made sure my phone never had more than ten photos. That's just how I liked it.

"Alright, this will work, now I just need a store that does 'Canvas family photo printing' thingy."

Crickets.

"That would've been a good thing to consider before we agreed on this," Amelia said, sheepishly.

Aww, look at us thinking everything last minute. I rolled my eyes at my own sarcastic thoughts.

"Well, good thing we have google maps though, eh?" I suggested.

Usually, once I go to a place in my car, I automatically memorize it. I have only ever needed to use google maps twice in my history of driving. Especially, since I came to America for my University.

Amelia nodded in agreement as we walked out of the store. There was no time to waste anymore. "Okay, how about you search the closest place available for the printing."

"Alright, pass your phone," She said, holding her hand out.

I raised an eyebrow. "What happened to your phone?"

"Nothing, I'm just too lazy to actually take it out, unlock it, type shit on it and all that, you know?" she explained dramatically.

This girl...

I heaved a sigh and took my phone out of my pocket and handed it to her. I was too weary to argue.

"Thanks," she beamed at me as I started the car.

We were able to drive all 5 kilometres before we finally found a printing station for the present. It wasn't that big but enough for what we needed.

"Good afternoon, ladies! How can I help you?" a middle-aged woman greeted us, enthusiastically.

We smiled at her. "Good afternoon, we need a canvas printed picture. It's an anniversary present, actually. We were wondering if you could help us out?"

"Of course we can, the change will be fifteen dollars, or more depending on the actual picture and the size of the canvas needed. Just give us the suggested picture and we'll get it done."

I smiled at the sweet lady before pulling my phone out. "I have a picture on my phone, if you don't mind, I can email it to you?"

"Of course, just send it to this email here, and then I will have access to it," she pointed at the piece of paper that was glued on the wall.

My bad... cue awkward laugh.

I was quick to send the email and in no time, we had ourselves a canvas as our family portrait. Simple and easy.

We said our goodbyes and rushed to the car. We just spent nearly an hour on this, mostly because Amelia was being the chatterbox she is known for.

____

"You are three hours late, missy," Elaina, my step-mother announced the second I walked through the door.

Amelia and I give her sheepish smile as we walk over to hug her. It was safe to say that my step-mother hadn't aged the slightest bit. She was still as young and beautiful as she was when I was younger. She did gain some wrinkles than the last time I saw her, but that was it.

She gladly accepted our hug and patted me on the back.

Behind her, I saw little Meghan struggling to crawl on her tiny arms and feel.

So cute.

She was wearing an adorable white dress with blue polka dotes. A bow head band in the colour blue.

I almost push Elaina aside and crouch down to Meghan's height. As soon as she sees me, she becomes a squealing mess. She immediately latches on to me and I cradle her.

"Hi, baby."
