I was once told that anger is a factor in how someone acts, but fear will take a toll on your sanity.- anonymous
Kyle would never really know when to quit. He always wanted to find a way out. Out of this office. His father had taken him to work after school. To be honest he loved his dad and his job, but he would love it more if he got to see it. All he was ever told when he asked about it was 'in due time', which never really answered him. Which always left him bored when he was picked up and left at the twelve story office. While his dad finished his work on the sixth story he left his son at.
But something seemed off today. Something feels off today. Sure he was picked up him up from school like usual. Sure they had their normal conversation like usual. But his words seemed off. And the atmosphere didn't feel like it should.
He took out his tablet after an hour and a half of thinking of this 'off' feeling and started playing on it while he waited for his father to come out of the office. He was aiming his angry bird when the door finally opened ten minutes later. He released with incredible accuracy. And looked up.
His father paid him no mind today. Did he do something wrong? Normally his father would've talked to him for a minute before he went back in. Today he just walked right past. Like he wasn't even there.
Then everything shifted. Not the building but the feeling of reality. Like something shouldn't be the way it is. He shrugged it off a few minutes later when he saw no signs of this 'change'.
He looked out the window to see dark storm clouds as black as night. Then he realized he should've been home bye now. It's dark out. And then it looks like it's about to storm cats and dogs.
He looked at his watch to find it to say it was 17:00. But that couldn't be right. It was so dark outside. He would have to get it fixed later and tell his parents. He looked at the television. He had permission in the office to change the channels as he wished. So he turned on the news. He liked to know how bad a storm would be if he was in one. So he could be mentally prepared. He looked at the forecast to find that. It two said 17o'clock. But then he looked at the forecast again. He must have been reading it wrong. That yellow must be lightning, to symbolize a storm. Maybe they were doing something new for the storm symbol. He needed new glasses anyway. He was sure of it. But he leaned closer anyway. But now there was no denying it.
There he saw a bright yellow sun on this day. Which meant only one thing.
"Kyle," his father called finally looking at his son after his conversation with his coworker.
"Yes, father," He responded. He heard something in his dads voice. He only barely picked up on it.
"You need to go," Concerned etched his face majorly. But he was looking up. So he did too.
Then he saw it. The dark mist on the flow. And the bright lights of the storm. And the roof opened up. Revealing the people flying in the air towards the center of the spiralling storm clouds in the air.
And then he realized for the first time in his carefree boring life, he would no longer have it again knowing that this happened. He couldn't just complain anymore. He was no longer happy or bored.
He was afraid.
