"Is this really the only way we can solve this issue, Leo?"

Set in a dark room, two parents contemplating a decision that could mean an eternity in hell or lifelong peace in heaven. The very choice being depended on, was whether to be happy at the cost of another's suffering, or be miserable for their whole timeline and keep one person happy. Of course, those who are good hearted would choose to suffer in hoping of keeping the other happy. But alas, all people cannot be like that. For without bad people, there is no chance for others to be good. This is one of the many cruel ironies of the world. Another being you must eat living things to stay alive, or you must have an equivalent exchange to get something you desire. An eye for an eye.

If you like stories with happiness, with adventure beyond your wildest dreams, with romance, with drama, then you have a 50/50 chance of reading this. For this story is not one of great happiness, and very little romance. There is adventure, just as much as there is drama. But that is not what the story is mainly about. This very choice which our characters are about to make determine the entire timeline of the story. But enough rambling on, as we must first get to that decision.

"Nadia dear, we musn't fuss. I know this will be difficult," a deep voice of a man in his late 40's rang through the room, which was very open. "But we must do it with haste before we have second thoughts. I'm sorry it has to be this way, but...there is no choice."

"There is always a choice, you selfish, selfish man! This is our child we are talking about, we must think this through carefully. This could ruin his life!" a desperate mother tried to console her husband. Her face streamed tears of sorrow and guilt. Her long blonde hair a mess as it ran down her back.

The man, who was apparently named Leo, struck his wife across the face, the many rings on his right hand only making the slap all the more painful. Nadia let a yelp of pain escape her lips. Leo had a glare so hateful towards Nadia that it could have burned two holes through her face. She cowered in fear. Her feet forced her to back up against the wall, then to lower and bow down to him. He smirked a devil's grin, and walked over to what seemed to be a little bed. It was obviously made for a kid, as an adult could never fit into a three foot long bed. It was decorated with sea animals, the most popular one occurring being the blue whale. The pillow was a smiley face, an emoji one to be exact. The comforter to didn't look very comfortable, nor did the pillow, but the family wasn't exactly the richest where they lived.

The bed itself wasn't alone. There was in fact a child sleeping under the scratchy covers in the luminous room. It was a boy, that much could be told from his face. The child had a pleasant face. The eyes were closed ever so gently, and the mouth was only partially open. He was definitely in a deep sleep. The freckles along their face were more to count than stars in the sky. The hair on the child was extremely fluffy and curly, but short. One hand was up to his face, with the thumb in his mouth. It was truly an innocent picture until you saw the parents. Leo picked up the kid gently from the bed, and rocked it back and forth in his arms. He whispered incoherent things into the child's ear, though the child could not hear.

"November, I wish that your mother and I could see you grow up. What a handsome young man you would have become...ah, but we cannot." Leo walked over to Nadia, and placed the child into her arms. "Hold him until it is time." She nodded, and stood up from her bowing position.

"Do you have the weapons?" Nadia asked for the third time this evening. Her husband raised a hand to strike her, but he refused to do it again.

"Yes dearest, I do." to make his point clear, he pulled out a long, shiny dagger from his back pocket. But also slung around his back looked to be something in a casing of leather. It was a long instrument, with a curve at the end. A scythe. "I would appreciate it if you would stop worrying so much. It might turn your hair grey faster."

The three in the family silently tip toed out of the house, excluding the child, whom the mother was carrying. November surprisingly hadn't woken up despite the talking and movement. He was in a very deep sleep. The soft steps down the stairs and into the kitchen lulled the child even farther away from reality.

And quite frankly, maybe that was a good thing.
