I swiftly moved my hands as the grey smoke emerged from them. The smoke lifted up all the items I needed to make my long journey.
"Hera!" My six-year-old brother yelled running into my room and jumping on me causing me to laugh.
"What Odin?" I said as picked him up and span him around.
"Momma says you're going to see sissy can you give her my drawing?" he said as I sat him down. He pulled out a piece of paper with a drawing of a dog(?).
"Yeah, of course, you can just put it in my bag." I replied shortly before he ran over to my bag slipping it my bag.
We both made our way downstairs. My mom was in the kitchen and my dad was feeding the baby.
"Hey, mom, I'm getting ready to go." She turned and sighed looking at me.
"Try to be safe. I would go my self but I'm afraid my knee might go out. Can you get some ginger on your way back through?"
"Of course momma anything to help with the pain." I said before hugging her and making my way toward my father.
"Bye, dad. bye, Kane." I hugged him and my baby brother before making my way over to Odin. "Be good Odin, do you want another rock for your collection?"
Odin nodded his head before running off back to his room. I made my way to the door.
"Here give these to your sister." Momma handed me a bag of cookies. I placed them in my bag and headed off towards the woods.
The woods was one of the quickest paths but also one of the most dangerous. We lived in what we called bear county because bears were everywhere. But I assumed if I came across one I could cast a simple spell that would scare it off.
As I walked I began to feel as if I was being watched. I continued walking trying to ignore the feeling but it just kept getting stronger.
Suddenly from behind me, I heard a snap of a branch. I turned to see this huge black wolf. But it wasn't just a wolf it was a werewolf, an enemy of the witch clan. So I did what anyone would do if they were in danger... Not run... Not hide but pretend to be human. They wouldn't expose their selves to a human."Hi there buddy! Are you hungry? Here I have a sandwich in my bag." I pulled out a ham sandwich my mom packed and threw it at him. It was a waste of my food but I had no other option.
The wolf stared at me and another one emerged. An even bigger one. He was probably the alpha.
"Oh fuck, here j-just take my cookies to. Don't eat me." I said pulling them out of the bag. What they didn't know was I also pulled out my wand tucking it into my sleeve. I threw the cookies right in front of them.
Both continued to stare before one began to make its way towards me. I began to panic. Now I needed to run. I knew I was screwed a werewolf could definitely run faster than I could.
I could hear behind me the sound of them following behind me. I ran until I met a dead end.
A huge river and I couldn't swim.
"Little human don't be scared." one of them said."we just want to know who you are."
I turned to see a man. He was at least a couple inches taller than me, which wasn't much. His blue eyes stared at me and his brown hair reached his shoulders.
I still had them convinced I was human which was good. So I continued to play the part especially when I saw a bridge down on the other side of the river. I could use a spell and knock both of them out of the way. "W-what are you?!"
He looked at me with a look like he was processing how to tell me. When suddenly the other wolf began to transform back into a human.
" We're Werewolves. But your not human I can tell." he spoke walking towards me."You're a she-elf aren't you?"
The elves were extremely reclusive. They don't pick sides on the war.
"I umm... Yes." I answered clutching my wand as hard as I could, constantly glancing down to make sure they couldn't see it.
"What are you doing on our lands? Are you lost?" The brown haired one asked.
"No. My mother sent me out to find some herbs. I'm sorry I didn't know this was your land. I'll just go." I said as I began to turn to walk towards the bridge.
"Hey it's okay we don't mind. Why don't you pull your hood down so we can see that pretty little face of yours?" The other one said.
I knew I had to. I didn't want to be suspicious. So I carefully pulled down my hood and when I didn't I got a reaction I want expecting. "Get the alpha." the brown hair one said.
I began to back away and then bolted off towards the bridge. I knew I had to hide my wand. As long as they still believed I was an elf they wouldn't harm me. At least I hope they still did.
I made to the bridge. The water was deep. So doing the unthinkable I snapped my wand dropping it into the water. I then continued to the other side of the bridge.
"Please, we hurt you little elf." The brown-haired boy said. "Its just you look like someone." I was once again trapped as I realized the bridge literally led to a dead end. "My names Rayner. I am the alphas beta. I promise we won't hurt you."
"That's a lie." I cried out falling to the ground. "You've hurt thousands of innocent people."
He sighed kneeling down. "You're a witch aren't you? As long as you play the part of one of the elves I promise you won't be harmed." he whispered running his fingers through my black hair.
I looked up past his shoulder to see three more wolves running this way.
"Alpha." Rayner bowed as he made it to the other side of the bridge.
Suddenly the wolf transformed into one of the most attractive men I had ever seen. He had long black hair and brown eyes. He was very tall and muscular too.
The others transformed revealing an elderly woman and man.
"What is your name child?" The woman said as she made her way towards. She sat down in front of me.
"Hera." I said as I stared at the ground.
"Hera who?" the alpha asked. His voice was very authoritative and dominating sounding.
I thought for a moment. I once had an elf as a friend. So I decided to use her last name. "Lotus"
"Hera, sweetie if you dont mind can I look at your shoulder." She reached towards me causing me to crawl back hitting the side of the mountain.
"Why?"
"Because I need to see something. I will not harm you." she said. I looked it was five against one. I couldn't win this, not even with a spell.
So I simply and slowly turned around taking off my cloak allowing her to pull the back of dress down to in order to see most of my back. I pulled away slightly as I felt her finger trace my birthmark. Her finger retracted. I felt her back away from me.
I turned to see tears running down her face. "She has returned alpha. Selene is back here before our very eyes."
The alpha took a step towards me causing me to take a step back. I was afraid. "Hera don't fear us. I know your confused but we can explain once we get back to the pack." The alpha spoke reaching out for me to take his hand.
I had no choice but to take it. I followed them back with one question on my mind. Who is Selene?
